I have a '97 Discovery with 174k miles, and have noticed it will run much higher temps with the A/C switched on. I've also noticed that in just about every instance that it runs higher temps, the electric fan isn't running when I switch off the engine. Usually, the fan will run for a short amount of time after the engine is off, but doesn't seem to when I run the A/C. I haven't let it run too high in the temp range, and have made sure the engine hasn't overheated.

Is this is a common problem on the Disco's, and what is the best way to go about troubleshooting the issue? I bought the LR late last summer, and the previous owner had supposedley replaced the electric fans. Is it possible to hardwire a switch for the fans that I can simply operate from the dash? Thanks!

Sounds like either bad fans or bad temp sensor or it wasn't wired correctly, as in aftermarket fans.

I would start by running a 12v test lead to the fans to ensure they really are working... then I would consider either checking all wiring or running a direct switch as you mentioned to the dash. Make sure to use a relay and a fused connection if running directly to the dash switch.

Thanks for the information, I'll start running through the electric fan wires!
