I'm finding Matthewwrn's post very useful (even though I haven't solved my "fuel gauge says empty" on my 2005 LR3 yet), so though I could contribute some data/facts to this.
Problem: fuel gauge on my 2005 LR3 says empty with yellow flashing light starting 3 months ago. Started fairly suddenly, within a couple days it went from fine to "hmm does my tank have a leak" as I look at an unusually low gauge, to "nope something along the fuel level sensor/sender circuit is bad".
Diagnosis to date: using my GAP IIDTool I've determined that sender 2 is giving a continuous 4.97V (not sure how to convert to Ohms as i don't know the current), and from looking behind the back of the front passenger wheel well cover, it appears the connector and wires are fine (I don't see any rubbing on the frame horn, and I don't see a broken wire).
I have two current problems: a) I can't find the wiring diagram for this circuit, anyone have the wiring diagram for 2005 LR3? I've seen some useful stuff for other years and models, but I haven't seen one that makes sense for mine yet.
b) I can't get the connector apart! I see that the red tab slides 'forward' and 'backward' (away from the connector pair), but I can't figure out how to separate the two halves. I've tried wiggling/jiggling really hard, I've tried a little prying, but I don't want to break anything or compromise the integrity of the weather seal, so any help (e.g. video) of how to separate the two halves of this connector pair would be greatly appreciated.
My plan temporarily is to put a 50 Ohm resistor in parallel with the fuel tank front fuel level sensor/sender, as on another thread I saw that doing that allows the fuel level logic to begin working again (with just the rear sensor/sender-- presumably with inability to compensate for incline).
Thoughts? Any help?
Thanks,
Ken
