Are the 2005 LR3's reliable? I had a 97 disco and it was a very bad experience. We were going to go with a new Lr4 and are now looking at used lr3'S

They seem to be. Look for one with maintenance records. I would also try to find an 06 or 07 SE with the options you want if you can swing it. The HSE held their value better since they are all optioned to the hilt -- SE come in any combination of options, so the basic ones bring the resale average down and make the loaded SEs a bargain. The SEs in these years can have up to every options the HSE, except memory seats and the top stereo. I specifically looked for one without GPS, since there are much better options available aftermarket now.

I really like http://http://autos.aol.com for finding deals (and atleast determining what a deal is) by using the graph mode:

You didnt specify where you were looking, but here is an 2006 SE V8 47K miles bluetooth and seat heat for <$20k - http://autos.aol.com/used-detail--1134866749509601337-Land+Rover-LR3-2006/

**im no way affiliated with AOL and not even typically a fan, but this is a really cool mash-up tool.

They are as reliable as any other year.

There were a few initial issues with the '05, but all were updated and resolved early on via recalls and TSBs. Overall condition, mileage, and maintenance are far better indicators than model year for these vehicles.

We're at 88k miles and near 7 years of ownership, and doing fine. There are a few useful threads here which outline the most common issues encountered. Would be good to check for those when looking for a vehicle. This includes replacement of front control arms and/or bushings, and thermostat, both of which appear to be needed around 75k give or take.

The 05's should have most of the issues worked out by now I would guess. Make sure the suspension bushings have been done. T stat is easy to fix...
