2001 disco 2 not starting

does anyone know if the 2001 disco 2 uses a vats or pats key?? the key i have is an old steel key it will turn over the motor and it will unlock the shifter. but thats all, just wanted to know if it uses a chip in the key?? thanks Terry

No chip in the key that I am aware of... check the battery.

usually when you turn the ignition key you want it to start Try starting the vehical in neutral, sometime the saftey switch goes bad....
