    ZF6 to ZF8 upgrade!

You brought back memories of driving my C5 half way across the country at 90mph in uniform so when the cops stopped me they would let me go(happened once) and calculating that I got 30mpg when I would stop for gas.

    ZF6 to ZF8 upgrade!

IMHO the ZF8 is a much better all around transmission. I've had the 6 in two land rovers and the 8 in two BMWs. Hands down the 8 is the better shifter. The 6 is nearly always in the wrong gear, I feel, or just doesn't have the gear it should be in. The ZF8 is put into many of the best cars in...

Anyone swapped out for newer seats?

I can get a fairly immaculate cream colored interior out of a '16 LR4 Lux for $500. Our cream colored seats in our '13 are kind of dingy. Seems like a fun spring project. Anyone done this?

When is it time to say goodbye?

I said it was a dumb thing, admittedly, but there are straws that break the back, esp when the vehicle becomes the ship of Theseus

When is it time to say goodbye?

This is really stupid but my front seat heat died and I think it's in the seat. These are the kind of little things that have me thinking about something new but I don't want to do it. Oil change interval discrepancy of reality vs the manual should be class action suit, for sure.

    Cold weather transmission failure

These things are so damn battery sensitive! I have a new AGM battery for this winter and in the same conditions skiiing overnight at 0 deg it now fires right up compared to last year she was a little hesitant.

P0016 comes and goes after oil change

Like Dieter and his schprockets? (may be too old of an SNL joke for some here) Catastrophic issue or just wait till they fail and fix then?

P0016 comes and goes after oil change

That is what I am trying to avoid. All the reading on here says you can wait until they make noise, they don't make any noise whatsoever.

P0016 comes and goes after oil change

I know, which is why I think the engine is toast but then it goes away. Under what conditions would it think timing is off but then come back?

P0016 comes and goes after oil change

2013 V8 116k miles. Last two oil changes P0016 comes in within 0- 300 miles of an oil change, then goes away after a few drive cycles. Each time I think, well, it's toast, then it goes away. Chains seem to have very small amount of slack through the oil fill but zero noise or anything, it runs...

PSA - Kings Cross Automotive, SW Washington state

This post is making me SOOOOOO glad I researched, studied, documented and really took my time with the ZipKit. It is very easy to make a mistake. There is absolutely one galley where you think there should be a ball and you think you lost it but there is not. It was in the obscurities of the...

Not sure why my post went half italics, not intended.

First post- going to look at a LR4 soon.

There are definitely timing chain issues with any of them , 6 or 8, that follow the ridiculous 12k factory oil change guidelines. There are just less with the post update ones, it wasn't a complete solution. Biggest thing I've learned in the many years here is that chain getting loose gives you...

No fluid coming out when bleeding rear brakes

I have a concern that when you dropped out the piston you put it back in somehow differently, like without some part or with some valve hole being covered or something. Can you bleed the other side? Is the problem only on the side where the piston fell out? Might try looking up piston reassembly...

    can't get inspected.

    can't get inspected.

It sounds like those aren't codes but "unready" indicators. I had this issue where it would not get ready after doing major service and I ended up having to do a driving sequence. It's utterly preposterous but I did many combinations of the drive cycles listed in the link below and after 1000...

Transmission taking too long to shift

I was asking OP if the terrain response selection influenced his late shifting pattern at all or if his issue only happens in normal mode.

Transmission taking too long to shift

GReat write up. Nice to have in one place vs when I did it using 5 different sources. It's weird that you have the opposite problem I have with the 6 speed, but I think by design, it shifts too soon for my taste. Does changing the winter/sand/ruts mode change how your transmission acts? By...

Transmission - Mechatronic Valve Body Sleeve (TZV500010) replacement - help!

Nice! Great write up. This was definitely near the top of my list of many, many things I thought: "I am going to take this apart but I'm not sure I will get it back together right" Number one on the list is the Jeep TJ Rubicon front axle locker engaged indicator switch because if you do remove...

Transmission - Mechatronic Valve Body Sleeve (TZV500010) replacement - help!

Also, that tab holding the metal line in your first pic, you can just bend it out, move stuff out of the way to get your hand in there IIRC.

Transmission - Mechatronic Valve Body Sleeve (TZV500010) replacement - help!

I was worried about this as well when I did this on my 2013 ZF6 but it goes in and out much easier than I thought, despite the restricted access. You will be able to get it in and out, have faith.

Transmission taking too long to shift

Agree you do not need jack stands or for the wheels to be free moving to do this procedure. I've done it twice and you don't need to. It's not just a waste of time its a dangerous one at that. Once you refill the first time, you put it in all the gears for a 10 seconds to fill up all the...

Transmission taking too long to shift

I had similar weird issues with the trans in my 2013 and thought it was on the way out at 95k two summers ago. I did one fluid change with Lubeguard and that helped a lot but not 100% (you can't get all the fluid out in one change). I then did the zipkit and another fluid change maybe 2k miles...

Zip kit and fluid change, now won't go past 5th

I agree they botched something in the install. It sounds like one of the pistons is stuck, not allowing it to shift into 5 and thus not any higher either. Also agree at 47k your fluid should be relatively fine.
