    becoming collectible

Saw a newer Land Cruiser parked out on the street just now. Walked up to it, and around it. Don't see why it's such a big deal. Looks like a Sequoia and 4Runner had a baby. Seems totally boring without any defining characteristics whatsoever. Kind of rounded, sort of squared, larger than a...

New alternator, must I calibrate in Gap for BMS? Also rock sliders install talk

The tap did the trick. Surprisingly quick and easy. Amazing what you can do with the right tools. There was a little rust on the tap so the tech at Lucky 8 was right about the source of the problem (rust). It would have been nice if he would have suggested tapping the threads as the...

New alternator, must I calibrate in Gap for BMS? Also rock sliders install talk

Thanks gentlemen. I had to tap out the threads when I installed my roof rack so I am somewhat familiar with the process. It was a bit of a PITA. Not hard to do, but tedious. I can only imagine what it will be like flat on my back underneath my rig with a dozen holes to tap out. I'm a...

New alternator, must I calibrate in Gap for BMS? Also rock sliders install talk

Question about the tap. I was able to get the side bolt in and seat, but the ones underneath consistently stopped about half way in. I contacted Lucky 8 and sent them the pics they requested. Their response was the underneath holes were notorious for rusting. Interesting observation, but not...

Several Land Rover parts for sale. Trailer Hitch, AMK Compressor, Transmission Service Kit, etc.

That AMK isn't plug-n-play if you are currently running Hitachi/Hitachi knock off, correct? If so, what is the procedure to switch over?

New alternator, must I calibrate in Gap for BMS? Also rock sliders install talk

@MellonRover what kind of sliders are those? I am scheduled to get a set from Lucky 8 delivered on the 5th that look real similar. Watched an installation video on the Lucky 8 website on the landing page for the product and it seemed so simple that I figured I should just DIY it. How was your...

2016 LR4 Original Owner. 75k. Thinking about selling, but not sure of alternative rides that can do everything this does.

I've been looking at older comps to my LR4 and everything I look into is similar, but not as good. More miles. Less hp. Less towing. Maybe a center locker. Older. I'm talking Cayenne, Hummer, Nissan Titan Crew Cab Pro 4X, Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland, the list is long. Bottom line, I look...

Rear glass gas struts - anything special?

Ever since I put the rear access ladder on my rear hatch glass of my LR4, the struts seem to be under-powered to reliably lift and hold the glass panel up. During the summer when it's warm, they do fine. However, in the colder weather they consistently allow the glass portion of the hatch to...

    2015 LR4 Windshield Wipers

I bought a new pair of wiper arms from AB since I was having my glass replaced. They never showed up at the glass shop, even though the wiper blades did. I just got my brakes done from a buddy of mine that owns a local garage and oddly enough the wiper arms got sent there instead, along with...

    LR4 brake issues

I ordered the complete brake kit, front and back, with genuine pads and standard rotors from British Atlantic and had my local garage guy put them on. Seem to be working well. No squeak or squeal. Stops solidly. Not sure about the "bite" I've heard others talk about. With these anti-lock...

I watched the video about half-way through and found it informative, and terrifying. I never realized how many things can go wrong.

    Head Removal

I've had a fantasy about learning how to work on these LR4s. I figure if you own one it's best to be able to work on it. There is a 2010 non-HD that's for sale here locally that looks in pretty good condition but is said to be blowing smoke out the exhaust. The seller thinks it might be a...

2016 LR4 Original Owner. 75k. Thinking about selling, but not sure of alternative rides that can do everything this does.

I was driving on the freeway yesterday over a mountain pass in Washington State when a white Defender 110 and my black LR4 got into a friendly competition. The Defender was effortlessly cruising at 80-90 mph in the fast lane around tractor/trailer rigs and passenger vehicles travelling at...

    LR4 Owner Considering Disco 2

Drove a nicely restored 2004 D2 today with the center locker and coils/thermostat brought to the top. It was in really nice condition, gray exterior on black interior, beautiful. Just what I had been looking for and reasonably priced. I drove it down some country roads and a stretch of...

    Control Arms

Thanks @ftillier I'm not schooled up enough on this stuff to know what's what. I am willing and able to take care of a few things right now (and have), but I don't want to be foolish about it, just throwing money at the LR4 because it's something that could be done. I've been trying to focus...

    Control Arms

I've wanted to go back to OEM bushings on all my control arms. One of the previous owners switched over to orange poly all the way around. I got a quote for doing the forward control arms with the OEM bushings and it was a little over $2,000 with an alignment. The labor was pretty modest, but...

    Best windshield replacement option?

I was lucky, I caught a rock and it created a 18" crack along the bottom of the old windshield. I had previously put in a claim for sand pitting and my insurance company (which will remain nameless) denied it calling it "normal wear and tear".

    Best windshield replacement option?

Just drove home from the glass shop with the fresh Pilkington windshield installed. Wow, just wow. Never realized how much of a difference the little things can make. It was like there was no glass in the windshield at all. Plus, the glass shop did an excellent job on the installation. They...

    2008 RR 4.2 SC

Looked at a RR tonight as a backup to my LR4. Super well maintained. Rear locker. Luxurious interior. All of it. Reasonably priced as well. In spite of all that, I still prefer my LR4. The RR was luxurious in an old fashioned way that seemed stuffy. Like all the LR products I've seen up...

    2012 LR4 150k Mile Maintenance

Update: Picked up the LR4 and drove it a bit today. Do I notice a difference in performance? Maybe it shifts a bit smoother. What I realize is I paid to swap perfectly good old parts for perfectly good new parts and old working fluids for fresh working fluids. There is no reason to believe...

    2012 LR4 150k Mile Maintenance

@ftillier Imagine a great "hole in the wall" diner, but for Land Rovers rather than short order food. The yard of the shop is littered with Land Rovers and the shop looks messy and dirty like a working shop. The owner "Gord'n" clearly has forgotten more about Land Rovers than most people will...

    2012 LR4 150k Mile Maintenance

Going to get my 2011 LR4 Lux out of the shop tomorrow. They did the front and rear crossovers, water pump, thermostat, and replaced the major fluids (including a synthetic oil change). Did it through an Indy shop in Seattle (Lamorna). Significant investment at around $5,000 for preventative...

I feel an urge to take it in the other direction. My dream replacement may be old and beat to s**t and basic as fluff so I can enjoy it without babying it or catering to its delicate needs.

    Cooling System Replacement - Dealership.

That's the one I was quoted by, Bellevue Land Rover. See, this is the reason I check on these boards. Me trying to do the right thing. "No good act will go unpunished!" Called, Lamorna. They seem like regular folks. Probably will go with them.
