Time is always the killer. As a hobby the LR4 is fine as they get older but as a daily driver where it is required within a certain timeframe? That ain't no fun.
I think the "gauge" readout? goes from full to 50% to add a quart (bottom) Did you ever get a message telling you to add a specific amount? Have you ever seen the overfilled warning? I would be tempted to add another 250 mL.
My rule of thumb is that anymore than 1L of make up oil is required...
You burning oil?
For the last 140k kms I have been running Mobil1 EP 5w-20 with maybe 500mL of burn in the 8-10 km OCI. About 2 years ago I switched to the EP high mileage and all my weeps and seeps have gone away. Highly recommend.
Back to your question. I would lean towards a 30 weight...
Own a Land Rover for long and you will end up with a stethoscope. You sure you can't polish out some of the damage on the nicked pulleys? Try some of the Brit based part shops. The shipping and duty is actually quite simple and low ( at least to Canada)
It isn't that hard to remove the engine cover and bend an ear to listen for unusual noises while the engine is running. A few times a year doing this and things "shouldn't" sneak up on you. A quick visual check of the belt spring and fall and you be golden.
The Rovers got an oversized sump. A litre down is no big deal unless you be rock crawling at crazy angles. I also prefer a dipstick but the system works good enough for me. I'll pick other battles..
Oh your paying one way or another, insurance companies don't exist to to lose money.. Up here most windshields are not insured due to the amount of gravel flying around. As soon as insurance is not involved the price for windshields drop dramatically. I can get a decent heated screen for the LR4...
Land Rover "developed" the SCV6 for purely fuel economy gains. There is your answer. If your priority is mechanical performance then V8. If you want a slightly more modern infotainment interface then V6 is ok. Not great but ok. Keep in mind with the V6 you are still lugging around the V8 block...
Have you tried to remove any of the plugs? That was my biggest worry as they tend to corrode themselves in there (visions of the old Ford 4.6/5.4). Otherwise at 100k miles they were ok looking but the threads were no longer spring chickens. Was happy to get some new ones in there.
Yeah if you can get around the seating position and looks they are practical. The dealer I was at didn't have 1 Disco 5 and the sales guy couldn't recall the last time they sold one. They look fat and the target market (Pilates and lunch mom) may not like that look reflecting on them.
I take it all back. Test drove the GX, it's a lumber wagon. Hands down my next ride is the P400 Defender X-Dynamic, not even close. Wow a great ride.
.
Discovery is ugly as sin but seats 7, has off road chops and tows 7700lbs, same as the beloved 4. But you may want to grab one before LR kills it. I considered Defender 110 with the imaginium6 but seriously? An 48V electric supercharger feeding a turbo? What could go wrong with that? Despite...
Essentially all the glass is the same, I have had them all. Within a year or two if they aren't cracked they start to get obscured due to the grit blast. Install is the important part here; Fresh OEM clips, good clean connections for the heating elements and a good clean of any old adhesive.
