150k miles, time for differential and transfer case fluids

The Workshop Manual lays out the specific fluid specifications for all components. Not all substitutions are equal, nor match the spec.

'13 will lose power and die after a quick stop

Topping up is not helpful. I purposely fill the tanks with the nozzle on full, and at the “click” indicating full, close it up. A lesson learned from my S-Type. Cheers All.

    maintenance history since new 2013

Thank you for keeping the tally. I’m on the fence if oil, filters, brakes, tires, and other common maintenance items belong here. If they do, wouldn’t fuel belong here too. What I find most useful is catching those repairs that I was not expecting to see. And identifying the mileage of the...

150k miles, time for differential and transfer case fluids

Here we go on the fluid spec religion train ;). For consideration, the oem fluids (as spec’d by the engineering staff) lasted this long… But I am glad you’re getting it done. By this number of miles, mine have been changed twice.

New Tires to replace Cooper Zeon

I concur with these findings. Roll in the price points into the equation along with my driving preferences (drove everything available in the military for 12 years, in all the weather and climates and drove ralley and slalom for a few years), I find the Pirelli Scorpion A/Ts very friendly… but...

    Choppy idle

Oh, now I understand. You’re right, I wouldn’t expect that either. The obvious; Were the gaps checked at installation? Have you had continuous misfires? Using the spec’d fuel? Losing coolant too?

    Choppy idle

That older plug doesn’t look like oem. Plugs are supposed to be changed every 100,000 km/60,000 miles…

    I took the leap...

Ensure ALL the fluids and filters have been changed. Many of us stick to the maintenance schedule for adverse conditions or heavy use.

First post- going to look at a LR4 soon.

I don’t think there will be any need to swap out an scv6, if you keep up on the maintenance…. of course that implies the previous owner did. And they are big and heavy…. so suspension, brakes, wear quicker. But those 5k oil changes are necessary. Now that I have mine sorted, I’m quite happy.

LR4 Fuel Issues after alternator fail

Could be…. but pinpoint test #1 still needs to be passed. I can’t imagine “tinkering” without the workshop manual. If you send me a PM…

LR4 Fuel Issues after alternator fail

A reading of 12.2 is a battery at about 30% capacity. Not enough to power up all of the modules of the vehicle. See https://www.varta-automotive.com/en-gb/knowledge/articles/article-details/car-battery-testing-instructions

LR4 Fuel Issues after alternator fail

Well, the Denso SC2 is the original generator. And compliments of the PCM, the output is variable, by design. But I still can't buy that affected the fuel charging system. Insufficient voltage will ill affect most modules. Out of interest, with the vehicle not running nor a battery charger not...

LR4 Fuel Issues after alternator fail

I can’t buy your hypothethis. These are independent, protected systems. And as I know nothing of your particular vehicle, it is difficult to weigh in. Does your vehicle incorporate a BMS. Do you have the correct (and healthy) battery for your vehicle? What complete set of DTCs are thrown, please?

New Tires to replace Cooper Zeon

hmmm... I'm not too far from Rochester and I do cut through the Adirondacks on the way to VT in all the weather, in all the seasons. We will have to agree to disagree; imho all season tires are not suitable for winters here. period. As a result, Michelin X-Ice, Bridgestone Blizzaks, and...

You are correct on both accounts @f1racer328 As I shared with the OP in another forum... Knowlege of the maintenance history is paramount.

    Thoughts on these spark plugs?

I wouldn't suspect those spark plugs as the root of your issues. Clean paper air filters, clean maf and clean throttle body is where I would look first.

    Longevity and Investment

I hear you about the engine troubles some have experienced…. preventative maintenance is everything. (knocking on head again, this week) Mine runs noisy, but perfectly. I do have the oil and filter changed every 5000 km. That should keep the premature wear at bay. A close friend with...
