Everything about tires for LR4/ LR3 with 18" wheels

Thanks all for the comments. Dan, agreed on the stronger BFG sidewalls. We don't have much in the way of sharp rocks jutting out here in MI, so not a major concern. I was confused a little by the Hankook website, they have P rated sizes, and LT rated sizes, but up at the top they have the...

Everything about tires for LR4/ LR3 with 18" wheels

For those with Compo's or spacers and 265-65 18s...is there any problem with clearance between front of tire and the front of the wheel well? I noticed that with spacers and stock size tires, there's only about an inch gap, when the tires are turned so that they are at their closest. And...

    2008 lr3

I have a different opinion than Houm, if I never off roaded again, I could still never think of a 4x4 I'd rather drive. It just has what I want, utility, perfect size, great riding position, agility, maneuverability... and I will admit that there's a part of me that just likes driving a Rover...

    2008 lr3

define "bad idea". I think it would be awesome myself, but when things go bad it'd be more expensive to maintain than say, a Toyota- especially if you can't maintain it yourself. If you want to go down to an '05, I have a great one for sale with 40,000 fewer miles. PM me if interested. Where are...

    Cross Bars for LR3 Roof

The bars themselves are wider. Although I don't understand the comment because factory accessories would be made for the wide factory bar and yakima accessories would be made for the yakima bar.

    Emergency Air Up DIY

Cool and useful write up! Just wondering, since it's for emergencies only, why did you mount up the shrader valves permanently instead of maybe zip tying them out of the way in the engine bay or something? (not that they are in the way where they are) Also, what is the "general air hosing...

    Battery Tender

Interesting. Just opening the (already unlocked) rear door would turn them on? The car was off for hours when I went to check. Time for another test!

    Anyone using 5w-40 oil?

I ran 50 weight to try to quiet a timing chain tensioner rattle - it worked - with no ill effects. Until the temps fell below about 30 F. I think it was straight 50 weight. It was tough to get started when it was colder than 30 so I switched back to 5-30 in the winter. I would GUESS that the...

    Anyone using 5w-40 oil?

doesn't Rotella have 5w-30? I'm just wondering why you want to. I am not a picky oil kind of guy, I would say it'll work. But is there a particular reason?

    Territory

I always wonder how this isn't illegal, some sort of antitrust violation? I could see having a territory if everybody sells for the same price, but to not 'allow' you to get it somewhere cheaper is just nuts. Imagine if gas stations operated that way...It's $5.00 in your town and you have to...

    LR4 questions from a noob

I'm with you. I like the compos, but don't LOVE them. Plus I already had the extra wheels, so it was $200 vs $2000, a no brainer at that point. They have snow tires on them now, come spring I will have decide between BFG, Duratrac or ??? It's nice to have the problem of being able to choose!

    LR4 questions from a noob

For those interested, I was hesitant about using the 1.25 spacers, mainly because I thought it would look strange but also that they would loosen or cause other problems. They have been on with the LR3 18" rims since the fall with no problems. And it actually looks as good as better as it does...

    Towing

The hitch is genuine OEM, the ball mount pictures is Reese (as it says). The trailer light wires plug in behind the bumper cover (typically), so you'd have that cover removed as pictured when you tow.

    Lifted LR3 ride/handling questions

Oh good grief. I am certainly not against your product. It is fine by me. As I've said, I could see myself being interested, but not at 2.5". Based on nothing but personal opinion, I think that that stretches the limits too far for daily use. It's kind of rubbed me the wrong way that all...

    Lifted LR3 ride/handling questions

"You guys live in your own small forum world and don't have a national or global perspective of what going on. You think because you like to ride around in stock mode that everyone else should do the same. Sorry that's not reality. The demand for Johnson Rod lifts has grown year over year and...

    Parking Brake Horror Story

The EPB was just south of $1000 by itself IIRC. (I got a used one for around $400) And there's a lot of labor involved so I could see $1500. I don't really get the brakes being scorched, unless they were dragging for a long time - which ought to have been obvious. Not sure how that works...

Sure, I can do that. I'm not in a hurry to do it though if you're not.

    Parking Brake Horror Story

I think there are two separate issues, the shoes and the module itself. I can't see how rare usage could mess up the module. But it's probably a good idea to 'exercise' the mechanics of the system once in a while. I probably only used my parking brake 6 times in 10 years. My EPB module...

    Lifted LR3 ride/handling questions

JR Have you ever or would you consider making a 1 to 1.5" rod lift? Personally I think that would be perfect. An extra inch or so would look better on a daily basis with bigger tires (IMO). I think the 31.5" tires looks a little 'cramped' at regular height. And the IID tool could lift it...

    Silly windshield wiper question.

They certainly look like they will swap, same shape to the arms and shaft size. But it will have to be a lot warmer than it is right now to get me to swap them and tell you for sure.

    2013 LR4 Brakes $1400???

Ditto. Dealers are for warranty work only. At the rates they charge, it seems they would just give you a free truck and then charge for the repairs. Also, I'd bet your rotors are fine, although the dealer would never admit that. And pads front and rear are maybe $200. I don't know what...
