My LR4 next to a new Discovery...

D5 is a sad departure from Land Rover heritage. It will generate better revenue for Tata, but at the expense of alienating enthusiast buyers (forum dwellers like us.) My sales guy admitted JLR does not expect LRx buyers to like the D5, but they will draw plenty of folks looking to get into a...

    Windshield

Just replaced the windshield on our LR4 and insisted on OEM glass. God to test the rain sensor shortly after and all worked as it should.

    Tire suggestion

I've been using Nokian Rotiiva AT on my LR3 that replaced a set of Silent Armors. I wasn't going off road enough to justify the harsh ride and somewhat increased noise from the SAs, so looked around for other alternatives. It is a year-round tire for me, and living in a cold climate I wanted the...

I decided to keep my LR4 after all.

Too many jokes about Gorilla nuts come to mind... Thanks for the link.

I decided to keep my LR4 after all.

Paul, glad to hear you are keeping it. OT: Since it came up, what are the best replacement options for the factory lug nuts?

LR3 pair of lower control arms / tie rods

I have a pair of front LCA's and tie rods from my LR3. These have about 85k miles on them. I kept them thinking I would replace the bushings and install when their replacements wear out, but selling the LR3 so don't need them. I am in the Denver area and can meet within a reasonable distance...

Drove the new Discovery and I'm totally confused now.

I had the opportunity to drive a new Disco HSE with the diesel. Overall, very sad (but not surprised) to say that is was pretty bland. No other word for it really. Diesel has a lot of clatter on start up and idle, much more than say an X5 or Cayenne diesel. Throttle lag off the line then some...

My new LR4, some vacation Photos, and a Thank You!

Congrats! That last pic, what a shot! Where are is that?

Drove the new Discovery and I'm totally confused now.

A few thoughts from an owner with combined ~150k miles in an LR3 and SCV6 LR4. We've had our LR4 loaded with people, dog, luggage, and drag from skis on the roof, and the SCV6 has been excellent. Effortless at highway speeds up to and over 80mph, climbing steep grades at high altitude. I'd love...

    LR4 Rust

Perhaps composites in the distant future, but no company has been able to mass produce composite chassis in volume. BMW has come the closest with the i3, but even that has had its issues and still is not cost effective. They remain in the realm of specialty applications (high end cars and...

    Found an LR4, a couple pre-purchase questions...

Over the last year or two 2013s have held remarkably firm in value. We looked before getting our 2015, but was hard to find the right package. Looking again recently and seems they are all still $40-45k depending on mileage.

    Separate rims for snow tires?

We have had these for almost two years and they are by far the best option in our conditions.

    Front Diff?

^ A tech at my dealership misdiagnosed mine at first as a front diff bearing. As I talked them into doing a rebuild v a replacement, I confirmed it wasn't the culprit. At around 100k, lots to start worrying ($$$) about... So far I have done both hubs, LCAs and tie rods. At some point upper...

    Front Diff?

Could also be a hub bearing. Both fronts on mine started to go around the same mileage.

What is the best MY for a LR4?

Most of the responses you will get will be a 2013 or 2012, last of the V8 era. Doesn't appear to be an appreciable difference in fuel economy in real world circumstances, so range is about the same but you have more power/torque. Also more likely to find one with HD package.

    ^ Good point, thank you.

    front lower control arm install

Quick question for the group. About to do my front LCAs and hubs. Worth doing to tie rods at the same time? LR3 with about 92k miles.

    Lower control arm question

I've heard of a lot of LR4s that needed LCA bushings around 35-40k. Sadly a (very expensive) wear item.

Running Winter/Snow tires in relatively warmer temperature areas

Thanks Crash, bonus Golden pic... Nice looking 4 there, maybe will see you cruising around town. The WRG3s have amazing range without changing their feel whether 90s or subzero (as was the case this morning.) Looking forward to getting back to the 50s soon!

Running Winter/Snow tires in relatively warmer temperature areas

Very quiet, probably quieter than the stock Pirelli's we had. Soft as well, but still some sidewall, although they should be soft and quiet with less than 20k miles on them. Rain performance was also strong, no hydroplaning that I have ever noted even in some pretty substantial downpours. Love...

Running Winter/Snow tires in relatively warmer temperature areas

I have run the WRG3 entering my 2nd winter. Confession, I am a huge fan of Nokian's. Living in Colorado, 95% of the time to roads are dry here, and in the summer you have months of 90s+. Still no noticeable accelerated wear after 15k miles. Excellent winter traction. Not as good as a the R2 or...
