    Ques. for those who tow

You will definitely need a brake controller. I just got ours from Northern Tool based on aesthetics and had the dealer install it. The factory trailer electronics will not engage your trailer brakes and 4500 is well over the recommended weight for trailer brakes

Roof rails; short or extended - which one?

We have the short roof rails for a cargo carrier we use, I was disappointed that you have to use Land Rover Cross Bars but it seems to work just fine so far.

    20 inch wheels

20" is too big and the tires are too low profile for off road. The 19" the only AT tire I can find is Pirelli Scorpion ATR so there aren't a whole lot of options. Someone posted on this forum about some 18" wheels that will fit.

LR4 HSE LUX or Tahoe LTZ???????

We tow a 3800lb Travel trailer with electric trailer brakes and it tows marvelously. If you have a small single axle trailer with a couple of ATV's or a couple of Jet skis I wouldn't at all be afraid to tow without the trailer brakes. I think a lot of manufacturers publish low tow ratings...

    Bike rack + parking sensor

Ours has the button to turn off the sensors, but has rear and front sensors. I don't know the build date but we have a blank button for the voice command feature.

LR4 HSE LUX or Tahoe LTZ???????

The Chevy has completely unusable cargo space with the third row seat in and is a 4 passenger vehicle with it out. Chevy has managed to create a vehicle larger on the outside but somehow smaller on the inside than the Land Rover. When coupled with it's sub par off road performance I think the...

Fresh off the boat - Getting tired of rentals

You live in Colorado. The GL will become a disappointment once you become comfortable with more advanced off-road trails in the mountains. The Jeep can handle the trails but if you want to bring along friends (or Johnny wants to bring along friends) the jeep can quickly become cramped. We...

    Premium Fuel for LR4

Now if only it was easy to find fuel without ethanol. Ethanol will damage your motor and there's nothing we can do about it.

    Premium Fuel for LR4

The reason Premium is recommended is that it's needed to achieve the advertised horsepower and fuel mileage. The cars knock sensors will adjust and run just fine on almost any unleaded gasoline. The thing that hurts engine life substantially more than octane rating is ethanol content...

    Opinions on Self-Installing Various Accessories

I installed the short roof rails myself and it was pretty straight forward. I was surprised that it required cutting the drip rail but really it wasn't anything you can't do if you have a saw and a torx screwdriver

    Extended Warranty

Many times once a car is considered used the service contract cost more than on a new car. I got my Service Contract within a month of the purchase just to make sure it was considered a new car when I purchased it, you could probably push it out to a year or 12k miles and be OK, I personally...

    Extended Warranties

We looked at several when we got our LR4 and went with JM&A (The old Jim Moran and Associates) This company administers Toyota's factory service contracts in the U.S. and also handles Toyota Motor Credit retail administration. It's a very solid company and seems to offer good coverage for a...

    Should I buy?

the LR4 doesn't currently have a peer in the US. If you want the versatility of a 3rd row seat, a true off road capable vehicle and decent towing capability, the German vehicles aren't even close. I might trust the LR more than the German vehicles in part because Ford owned them during the...
