    Ahhhh.......my parents had a '77 model as I recall.cost GBP 2200 (not sure why I remember that,). BL at possibly their worst. Remember the windshield seal leaked. Dealer response was "Madam but they all leak!" Or something similar. At least they didn't buy an Allegro...........

    I would let the shop sort it out at this point. Just make sure tactfully that they are aware of the correct bleed procedure. The DIY at home procedure involves raising the expansion tank a couple of inches. Google it to find the procedure. Make sure they replaced the bleed valve with a new one...

    Ah found it. Thanks! Electrics are a horror show for me. Have a multimeter but barely know how to use it. So the final solution was to just splice in two new wires between the switch and the connector? Will investigate as weather permits. Will probably replace actuator anyway now I have wrecked...

    So this morning with overnight temps of 5degC the voltage at the battery terminals was 12V off, 10.6V cranking. Car started fine. Thinking may be the starter motor. Confirmed the battery is 4yo.
