LR4 5.0 Chain Guides actual problem?

Wouldn't be surprised to see that there are multiple issues going on. Timing chain 'stretch' is likely not a tensioner issue. "......Some of the most notorious engines for timing chain stretch include the GM High-Feature V6, Ford Modular V8 and Nissan VQ V6. All of these OEMs have stated that...

For those that offroad their LR4...a few questions before I pull the trigger

Given that your truck will be an daily driver and that you are not intending to build a rock crawler I would take a more limited and longer time driven approach to making changes. My perspective is a 2011 LR4 with HD intended to tow a camper trailer to a no services campsite and then use the LR4...

Rhino hitch has worked well for 3+ years towing a TT across the West. No anti-sway or WD hitch.

Is a d5 a great deal right now?

My thinking was to return the rear access to D1/D2 functionality with the ability to add accessory items like flip down shelves. That is lost with a minivan rear.

Is a d5 a great deal right now?

Not sure about all you flatlanders but here in Colorado there are many DI's, DII's, LR3's, LR4's and RR's. Very few new Discoveries (D5). Heck, I've seen more LR2's. The older they are the more modified they are. Keep in mind that Land Rover is "attempting" to create 3 segments - RR, Discovery...

Is a d5 a great deal right now?

Those volumes are NA only or world? The LR was selling ~45K per year of the LR4

Is a d5 a great deal right now?

The slowest selling LR's are the Discovery 5 and Velar. Still expect some models to be dropped as JLR works its way through the financial issues but I do not expect them to go out of business. Either Tata will figure it out, another investor will join the 'team' and/or the British government...

Making a case for the D5

Overall auto sales are down. While at one time LR sales were up as a result of more models, I think that Discovery sales were less than expected. Sales have gone down since those days. Jaguar Land Rover announces turnaround plan as sales slide They are in reorg mode to address a pre-tax loss...

World Land Rover Day 2018 (4.30.18)

Have to say Land Rover's product line has become boring. They all look the same. I'm not interested in my 4wd/camping/functional truck morphing into a sports SUV/CUV/van. Sales volumes will probably skip a generation as Land Rover figures it out.

    D5 - Comprehensive Review

Agreed on several beers! Or Margaritas. Or ....... As for Land Rovers design direction, only time will tell.

    D5 - Comprehensive Review

The D5 is likely very capable off road but I do not agree that it is a "great vehicle". It has morphed into just another jelly bean with loss of command seating, limited road / trail visibility similar to most other SUV's and minivan rear end. As for design language, look at a LR web site. All...

    D5 - Comprehensive Review

JLR laying off 1000 workers, blaming Brexit and the EU diesel 'discussion'. Sales are down so have to blame 'other' issues. Have to think the design direction is playing a role in reduced sales. Had my LR4 in for scheduled service and was given a Discovery Sport loaner. (Better than an Evoque...

    Tire Pressure?

Standard P-metric factory tires or LT / Load Range E? Makes a difference. For your standard factory spec tire I would run recommended pressures except if loaded or towing. For load range E I would inflate to higher pressures depending on tire and load, typically 50psi as the max pressure for...

Making a case for the D5

The D5 is a reflection of government regulation that has forced a very bland model, where all vehicles are headed. From overuse of technology (obsolete by the time it is introduced in a vehicle, not just a JLR issue) to pedestrian frontal impact requirements of the EU to fuel efficiency CAFE to...

Is it ok to start towing with 100,000 miles on the engine?

I am. One of the better accessories/changes I have made to our LR4.

Is it ok to start towing with 100,000 miles on the engine?

100K miles is not the issue. Previous maintenance is. Towing adds stress to the tow vehicle and will expose poor or needed maintenance. @cperez - LOL on the hitch discussions rivaling tires and oil. Personally I think towing requires a minimum of load range E tires or at least extra load tires.

Making a case for the D5

Each person is going to have a different take on the D5. Ultimately JLR is going to assess the success of their product line with the direction of revenue and sales numbers. I was highlighting that sales are mediocre and management changes are being made. Personally I don't see $80K of value...

Making a case for the D5

JLR sales are mediocre at best. The D5 is now $77K, over $80K out the door, for Ford Explorer styling and less value than a LR4. Wouldn't be surprised if the D5 depreciates faster than the LR4. Recent from Automotive News: - Jaguar Land Rover sales in U.S., Europe weigh on Tata profit - Goss...

LR4 5.0 Chain Guides actual problem?

Without performing an actual physical inspection and diagnostics of the chain, sprockets and guides to show the issue the video didn't complete the overall proof of that the guides are inducing the problem.

LR4 5.0 Chain Guides actual problem?

Couple of thoughts - The video says that the JLR engine is a Ford engine. - From several articles the JLR 5.0 AJ-V8 Gen III engine is not a Ford 5.0 Coyote - IF the engines are the same we should be hearing of the same problem with Ford vehicles. I have not.

I have had a loaner D5 for a week Ask Me Anything (LR4 owner)

Hmmmm ........ The LR3/LR4 are integrated body on frame but that is just a fancy way of saying the full frame has been integrated into a unibody. The body can be lifted off the frame. The D5 is unibody. Unibody and more extensive use of aluminum is how LR reduced the D5 weight. IFS/IRS are a...

    What's with JLR?/Defender rant

Well first any new Defender discussion is limited to mules and extrapolation of current product line direction. The media has to have something to talk about even if they are completely wrong. That said McGovern's product direction, while good for Range Rover, leaves a lot to be desired for Land...
