    LR5 Release Updates?

The new Discovery does have that minivan look. In fact the low end model that is single speed xfercase could be that market segment.

    Winter prep anyone?

For my LR4 - LR3 wheels, spacers, Rhino hitch and some trimming of front wheel inside trim. Not much. Do get some rubbing on frame extensions at full steering lock but minor. Rhino hitch allows spare tire to fit, no deflation.

    LR5 Release Updates?

Prediction. Most people will leave stuff on seats or in storage areas, making remote control seat configuration capability useless.

    Winter prep anyone?

Personally think that good tires, winter survival kit (CO , WY) and planning is more important. Have never needed chains. Living in Colorado with relatives in STL, I've traveled many times across Eastern Colorado, Kansas and Missouri during the winter. The challenge is Colorado and Kansas. The...

    Comparison Test Request

Good comparison crash. Note that this is a 4 low / 2-speed xfer case comparison. HD / locking rear diff would eliminate wheel spin AND improve overall vehicle control on trails. That said many don't need HD locker. For me it was required. Now, a single speed xfer case? Suspect it would struggle...

LR4 Offroad Performance WITHOUT Heavey Duty Package

You do realize that the HD package is locking rear diff and heavy duty axles only. The 2-speed xfer case is not part of the HD package. It was standard, with or without HD package. You have to check a vehicle for options to see if HD was added. The 2 speed xfer case was standard in '13 and...

LR4 Offroad Performance WITHOUT Heavey Duty Package

LOL, I was thinking the same thing. Is that an "off-road" course or a forest service road highway! Don't know what our local LR dealer does for events these days but years ago it was trails through the trees (not some bulldozed course), teeter-totter balance challenges and loose shale rock hill...

    First Impressions (Going from MY13 LR4/NAV8 to MY16 LR4/SCV6)

Agreed if you are always on pavement or mild trails and only change settings at start of journey. "A few hundred miles" is the all you need. Doesn't take a lot of thinking. Less so when your running a difficult trail and need quick changes without taking your eyes off the goal. Between TR and...

    First Impressions (Going from MY13 LR4/NAV8 to MY16 LR4/SCV6)

Not wanting to beat a dead horse ..... NAV8 vs SCV6 Comparison Yes on Colorado - North Colorado Springs/AFA Agreed on "not completely but mostly". :-) Besides the lower hp/torque for the SCV6 the other aspect brought up in the linked discussion is the reduction in inter-cooler efficiency as...

    First Impressions (Going from MY13 LR4/NAV8 to MY16 LR4/SCV6)

Hmmmm ....... not my experience or from multiple observations of others (Colorado). Both HP and Torque curves are earlier and higher for the V8. The advantage of the SCV6 is a slight increase in fuel efficiency and reduction in CO2 emissions. Maybe your experience is driven by the 8-speed...

LR4 Offroad Performance WITHOUT Heavey Duty Package

A perspective from Colorado and someone who has owned Jeep J10, Scouts a D1 and wheeled many trails. I can't imagine wheelin a 6000# truck without low range unless all your exploring is forest service roads and mild trail work. in addition its not always "rock" crawlin that demands low range...

    LR5 Release Updates?

Agreed Dan. Thinking 90%+ of our rear access is upper tailgate only. Load is arranged according to what we need. Dealing with a single large tailgate is a pain, motorized or not.

    LR5 Release Updates?

To me the Discovery 5 takes its heritage from the Discovery Sport which evolved out of the Evoque. The Evoque was a fashion statement that pointed the way to where the windswept rovers are today. Better than the LR4 in every way? Hardly. With 20/21" wheels targeting urban travel, lack of...

Last time fuel prices were high in the US it was both gas and diesel so base choice on other attributes.

    LR5 Release Updates?

TSA is not new. Requiring a JLR towbar is. What capability does a towbar bring to the table? Feels more like a legal protection requirement than new technology. Have to say there is a lot of technology added to this Discovery. Not sure that is good. Then again JLR isn't the only manufacturer...

    LR5 Release Updates?

Interesting. Embedded within the build options menu: TOWING OPTIONS Front and Rear Towing Hooks Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) (require an official JLR towbar) Wonder what that is?

    LR5 Release Updates?

As reported "Overall the Discovery takes a decisive step upmarket from its predecessor, with a more luxurious interior, much more sophisticated infotainment system and driver and safety aids." Slotted just below RR product line, hence the jump in price and loss of Discovery styling heritage...

    Showoff Your LR4

When we first acquired our LR4 I looked at those 20"ers and cringed. I consider myself a reasonable off-roader so a few weeks later they were gone. LR3 18" wheels, spacers and 285/60-18 General Grabber AT's were the replacement. Very happy with choice. Highway performance is good. Took the LR4...

    LR5 Release Updates?

I suspect in the end the comparison point will be LR4 to Discovery HSE Lux. Price point effectively rises to $70-80K. Several article I read indicated LR was slotting the new Disco just below the RR. The coilers allow some room in the original LR4 price range.

    LR5 Release Updates?

Thanks for the vid Dan. Informative. Given that this was produced by a equalizer hitch vendor I sense a future series of back and forth marketing analysis as air suspension sophistication rises. The one in the vid seemed pretty low end given that you could add and remove air through the fuel...

    Cracked windscreen

My local LR dealer had a select shop replace my windshield with Pilkington glass at the dealer while I was having some other work done. Covered by insurance company as 'local' glass company. Dealer knows who does good work.
