    2015 LR4 Check Engine Light

I’m doubtful the software upgrade would fix as well...do you happen to know what the code was? Also, if they are going to make you pay, you might get the manager involved and have them agree if the $245 does not fix it that they will eat the cost. Just an thought, $245 is 1/2 the cost of a GAP...

    Bleeding cooling system

Good deal! On the screw, you can find plastic ones at local auto parts stores. It’s technically a bmw bleeder screw but is the same size. I’ll see if I can find the part number.

    Bleeding cooling system

I found a brass one on amazon. Let me see if I can find it. I think I posted it up before. It’s a bmw part but fits perfectly, just like the plastic one. Edit: I think this is it: EVER STORE 17111712788 Coolant Bleeder Screw Compatible for BMW E46 E92 E90 E36 E39 & Mini Cooper...

    Bleeding cooling system

that possibly means airlock (air expands more than coolant when hot). Leave cap off and it should suck most of fluid back in. Air pockets should rise near bleed screws. The most important one is the one near the battery. Get the car hot at idle and open the screws a couple turns. If fluid never...

    Bleeding cooling system

Once thermostat opens it will come out of the bleed holes. Make sure your heater is on high, both front and back. Heat should blow hot if it’s bled correctly (that means heater core has water flowing). When you open expansion tank after it gets hot, did coolant rise? If so, leave top off and...

Bleed is not complicated. What’s the fiasco you are speaking of?

    Gearbox Fault

Good to hear Adrien! Glad it worked out for you. I had the trans shop that did mine quote $5k for a rebuild too. Then I bought a used trans with 42k on it for $650 and had them put it in for just over $1000. May be a less expensive route for anyone else on here looking to do the same. Still...

Looking to buy an LR4 and have some questions

I have not noticed that, but interesting observation. I’m at 125k and chain is still tight with original guides. PO changed oil religiously at 5k intervals. I’m doing the same. 2010, LR4 Lux, original guides. Of course many folks have blown their engines around 100k with crossover pipe failure-...

Looking to buy an LR4 and have some questions

For chains or crossover/water pump? Chains, seem related to interval on oil changes, but my evidence is anecdotal. I just hear most people saying that when their intervals are 5-7500 miles, no reports of timing chain noise. For the crossover and water pump, the crossover seems to hit at about...

    DIY Oil Change for LR4

Good point...I’m just referring to the computer, but noticed definite improvement with the oil change. I drive back from Hilton Head tomorrow and will calculate it. It’s definitely calculating higher MPG than it was. I didn’t particularly buy the truck for the incredible fuel economy...so...

Looking to buy an LR4 and have some questions

I’ve done the crossover. Simple job. Go ahead and do water pump at the same time, you’ll thank me later. You need the crossover, the water pump, and outlet pipe (behind water pump). If you’re feeling adventurous, do the back crossover too. It is also plastic and will develop a leak (usually not...

    DIY Oil Change for LR4

If I’m not mistaken, the truck takes 8 liters not 8 quarts. Not sure it’s enough variation to cause negative effects, but wanted to give a mention. I agree, pumping it out is the way to go. I use my mightyvac. Love that thing. Also, of note, I did give Mobil 1 0w20 high mileage a go on this...

Looking to buy an LR4 and have some questions

You’ll pay a lot more for the inspection. Depends on the tech you get there at dealership. In my experience, the better mechanics end up at a independent that specializes in Land Rover. With an LR4, you don’t need someone who is up on the latest tech. If there’s a dealership around, chances...

    PCV refresh/replacement

Both are true. They are accessible without moving anything at all! But I’ll take a difficult to access PCV valve over a 19 hour timing chain update any day of the week . Although I wouldn’t trade my V8! Thanks for the write-up!

Looking to buy an LR4 and have some questions

V8 no question. One that has been well maintained and preferably has had timing chain and crossover pipe addressed. I wouldn’t worry about the year. 2010-2013 are all great choices. You’ll know when you find the right one. Pay for a pre purchase inspection with a good independent

This is what happens if you don’t listen to your LR4

No sir. Service that transmission! Speaking from experience. PO did not service and ended up with a 4 month headache and a replacement transmission. My truck only had 115k at time of purchase and already had failing torque converter.
