The Quest for A Durable Front Crossover Pipe

Fantastic. Once I have the cad file (as long as Adam is okay sharing the file with everyone- his intellectual property) we can do so. I have a manufacturing contact in China also, but doesn’t hurt to get multiple prices.

The Quest for A Durable Front Crossover Pipe

This is for fun... if there were a huge market outside of this group, and I could get the price comparable to the current pos part, maybe. For now, let’s prove the concept and enjoy the benefit of the collective effort.

The Quest for A Durable Front Crossover Pipe

Sounds good. I think the most economical way is going to be a CAD file with a CNC machined aluminum part. It will be very close, if not exactly oem specs and will provide us with the strength and durability we are looking for. With the manufacturing contact I have, they’ll be able to give us...

The Quest for A Durable Front Crossover Pipe

M adam That would be amazing. I’ll send you both a broken part and a new part. I don’t mind contributing a donor “good oem” part to the cause. Once we have a cad of it, I’ll get a couple manufacturing quotes and see if we can’t get a working prototype. Adam, dm me your address to ship to...

    Water pump. FAIL

The water pump has a line that runs to the hose above the top thermostat hose (that connects to the crossover). Are you sure that return is seated correctly? Also, what about the small plastic pipe behind the water pump? Are you sure you re-fitted? I would have replaced that small pipe, top...

    2011 LR4 Transmission TCM failure

So the good news is the tcm is replaceable and I didn’t have to reprogram the one from a donor lr4 transmission I just put in. I do have one from my old transmission that was fully functional. I put in a new transmission due to a torque converter failure. Pm me if you want it. I’ll sell it to...

The Quest for A Durable Front Crossover Pipe

Agreed...considering the profit for LR comes from service now instead of sales (because of the uninspired crap they now put out)- they’ll never improve the parts that fail- especially when it grenades the engine right after the CPO expires.

The Quest for A Durable Front Crossover Pipe

I like the idea of the separate flanges. Interesting thought. The space between the intake manifold and the top of the engine is rather narrow if I recall so the braided line would need to fit and have volume capacity. By the design of the part, it looks to be produced as two separate parts...

    Another Defender hint?

Seems to match the leaked images we saw earlier this week.

The Quest for A Durable Front Crossover Pipe

It’s the plastic that fails, although the o-rings won’t last forever if there’s a more durable part. At least a durable part would prevent catastrophic failure though. O-ring failure would just develop a leak resulting in a “low coolant” warning

The Quest for A Durable Front Crossover Pipe

I’m going to run to my local independent tomorrow am and see if he can give me his next two failed crossover pipes. I’ve got a guy with markforged that thinks he can make one as a 3D printed part out of continuous thread kevlar or carbon fiber (not sure this is the best for this application). He...

    CEL: Barometric Pressure Sensor

Interested. I also committed a while ago to see about 3D printing a crossover pipe with markforged. I too will look into it. Question is, who wants to try the first part and risk toasting their engine?

    CEL: Barometric Pressure Sensor

No belts. Crossover needs to come back out, but otherwise pretty quick. Make sure the pressure fitting seats correctly. Mine leaked badly until I got it seated.

    CEL: Barometric Pressure Sensor

So, there’s a small hole on the water pump that is a return. The hose design has been updated and pressure fits into the water pump. I snapped mine when I did my water pump (very brittle). Id start there if it was leaking. easy fix.

    CEL: Barometric Pressure Sensor

It is possible that you hit a line. Do you see where it’s coming from? You are not too far from the water pump return and the crossover pipe sits right below the intake manifold. If you broke the crossover pipe, it was preparing to fail anyway (so consider yourself a bit lucky that you weren’t...

    Another Defender hint?

I don’t hate it either, and I certainly won’t buy one new off the lot. But after my LR4 goes and I grieve that loss. And after the Defender has been driven a couple years as a pavement princess, I’d give it a go.

    CEL: Barometric Pressure Sensor

Glad to hear it. Your vibrations could be a couple things. Start with wheel bearing check and a look at you cv joints on your half shaft. Could be either. If I’m not mistaken, some people report when a wheel bearing is going bad, the sound actually comes from the opposite side of the way you...

    CEL: Barometric Pressure Sensor

You can clean away! Moving the throttle body “flap” is necessary to get it really clean. Once you’ve done that though, you’ll likely need to recalibrate. I’ll look at my gap tool in a couple hours. If I recall correctly it’s under the PCM function Edit: So you need to clear adaptation values.

    CEL: Barometric Pressure Sensor

No map sensor necessary. Clean the tb and that should clear your issue. If you YouTube lr4 throttle body clean, you can see it. There’s not much to it. You just need to get the tb off the intake and clean it really well, especially around the pivots on the flap. Then use your gap tool to...

    In search of 19” Rim

Hey all, I’m in search of a 19” rim for my spare tire. As it’s a spare, condition is not that important (as long as it holds air). Anyone have one that they are willing to part with for a very reasonable price? I don’t necessarily need a tire on it or TPMS. I’m in NC and willing to drive to...

    Cv boot

It’s actually pretty easy to do. I’ve heard of a couple folks putting tension on it with a strap then using a pry bar. All accounts are pretty good with that approach. I took a pair of vice grips and a slide hammer and separated the boot from the transfer case side of the axle. With two...

    Cv boot

In all seriousness, the cv boot is very difficult to replace without taking the entire 1/2 shaft apart. You’re probably better off replacing the 1/2 shaft. I’ve done the replacement-it’s not a bad job. Depending on the tear (if it’s just a hole) you may attempt a repair on the cv boot.
