Rear suspension chatter or flap - video

Udpate: Although the dealer is doing everything they can, apparently they still cannot reproduce the noise. As I live downtown and can hear the noise repeadetly on a short commute or any other drive, I've suggested that the dealer bring the D3 downtown to test drive it on the city conditions...

Rear suspension chatter or flap - video

The front bushing knock was noticable when traveling over small bumps or the driveway lip. One way the dealer tested the front was to move at crawl speed - 1 mph and slam or pump hard the brakes. You could immediately feel a knock - like the body of the D3 was slamming into the chassis...

Rear suspension chatter or flap - video

Thanks for all of the ideas. I've had my front bushings replaced, and it does immediately improve the noise and feel of the front of the D3. The dealer is telling me that the rear bushings are tight and they aren't the problem. Since I haven't had the rears replaced I'm sure that they are...

Rear suspension chatter or flap - video

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll bring them up to my dealer. I initially thought the noise inside the cabin was from the panels, but after I rode in the back and had someone else drive the vehicle I can tell the noise is coming from the rear suspension. I taped a Flip Mino player to one of my...

Rear suspension chatter or flap - video

As I'm not as technically inclined as some of the other forum members I thought I'd ask for help. My rear suspension is making a chatter or flapping noise when driving over cracks, potholes or bumps in the road. My D3 is currently with the dealer and they cannot identify the problem. I think...

    Steering wheel Airbag cover curl

I've read someplace else about someone making their own rubber stopper for the 3rd row noise out of surgical tubing. If LR doesn't sell the rubber stops maybe they could be made. Think I read it on disco3.uk.com

    lug nut

Is it safe to change out one (1) lug nut while the D3 is sitting on the pavement - not jacked up? Would this cause too much stress on the remaining lug nuts / wheel?

    Bushings

Installing the arb shims is fairly easy and it has immediate benefits. I'd have them put them in at your next service. Parts are about $10 and its a 30 minute procedure.

    Bushings

I've had the shims put in and my front bushings replaced twice. The shims helped for 30 days. I think my rears are worn and that's what is causing the flop. To answer the original question I think they are too soft and I think they wear too fast as a result. The only harm in not changing them is...

    Bushings

My rumbles only happen over cracks, bumps or potholes. I by no means expect silence but the rear literally flops/chatters. I'm in chicago and the street conditions here are as bad as I've ever seen - so I think the bushings are wearing prematurely. When I took my D3 to the dealers today it was...

    Bushings

The rear of my D3 rumbles so bad I can barely enjoy driving it anymore. I used to think it was rear interior panel noise but I recently rode in the back and its definitely suspension related. I just dropped it off at the dealers this morning to have them look at the rear suspension. My feeling...

    LR3 floor mats

Go back and get the dealer to give you the proper mats. You just bought a $55,000+/- LR3, and you should get the proper mats fitted in that price.

Steering Knock or Free Play sensation on 08 model D3

I feel your pain. I went through the same issue with my dealer. In order to convince them it was clunking I set out on a test drive near the dealership prior to arriving for service. I found some bumps in the road and some cracks where I could recreate the clunk. I then took the mechanic on my...

    LR3 Suspension

Low battery can throw off hdc warnings and faults, not sure about wheel issues. Were you listening to the radio during replacement of the parts? Sounds ridiculous but even that for an extended period of time on an D3 can drain the battery - and it uses a lot of juice.

    Warranty coverage issues

That's a pretty good list. I would add ball joints. LR came out with uprated ball joints in 2008, the original design wasn't up to spec. I'm having mine replaced under warranty. Also, if you have any play or clunk in the steering wheel it's probably the steering rack, LR also has a TSB about...

Downshift kick when approaching a stop

Thought I'd update my transmission kick issue. It actually solved itself over the course of 3 weeks. I had scheduled a visit to the dealer, and before I could get the D3 in for service it corrected itself. I haven't a clue as to why it magically fixed itself, but for anybody who experiences...

    EBC pads

I just purchased replacement pads from atlantic british. The sales guy I spoke with recommeneded the Ferodo (OEM) pads if I wasn't going to put new rotors on. I called expecting to be talked into spending the additional $20 for the EBC's and that's what I wanted, but he convinced me to go with...

    Shakes and Rattles

At dealers last weekend I noticed the '08 floor model LR3 had a new version of the upper tailgate close guides. I have an '05 and on either side of the upper tailgate where the hydraulic arm is attached to the body there is a plastic guide that is spring loaded. The '08 model has a peg that...

    EBC Brake Pads. Any good?

I just ordered the Ferodo replacement set from Atlantic British this week. I inquired with the rep on the phone about the EBC pad set and he said if I'm not changing rotors to go with the Ferodo set instead of EBC. He said that Ferodo has the same performance as the oem. I'm not a brake expert...
