LR4 - Heavy Duty Package Question

Working your way through some difficult situation - stream bed, steep rocks - one may get through with a lot of bashing and spinning, but you trash both the vehicle and the terrain. Using low range and locking diff makes a huge difference in working through difficult situations cleanly...

    Blower noise under passenger seat

Blower Noise - SOLVED! Thanks for the nudge...I just needed a little "it's not that tough" encouragement! Actually I had to completely remove the seat and partially lift the carpet, but it isn't that hard. One just needs to be careful gently pulling the trim pieces and all of the wiring...

    Blower noise under passenger seat

Actually you can just swing the glovebox down and out of the way giving access to a large fuse panel plus the interior air filter. Hopefully just removing the air filter will give you access to the culprit.

    New Tires

I like that the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 is actually designed for LR4 weight, and seems well engineered, especially for maintaining snow/ice traction as the tire wears down. After a fair bit of research, I had them installed today. Price was $231/tire including mount & balance at Interwest...

    Blower noise under passenger seat

Flapping noise making me crazy! Bump: Hoping that someone can help me out with this one... Now that it is nearing winter again and heaters are running, that flapping noise from under the passenger seat is making me crazy! I've poked around but can't see any easy way of getting into the...

    Reverse Camera Screen Black

When in doubt...disconnect one battery terminal for a few minutes in order to force a full system reboot. That seems to be the trick for any number of LR gremlins. Of course if the problems returns, then something more serious is going on.

    Real MPG

2011 LR4 HSE Lux, consistently averaging 17 MPG of town & highway mixed, in the mountains. Heater/AC control is set on auto, so there is some AC use in there but probably not a lot (it has been a pretty mild summer). Using premium fuel. Readings are per trip computer, wife and I can never...

LR4 Rear Mud Flap Installation Instructions

Did you take care to clean out leaves/junk from behind molding? I found a lot of junk in there - used a garden hose to clean it out. That seemed to help with things fitting nicely. Also fronts are much easier with wheel turned to be out of your way. Lifting the vehicle should make life...

Do I need a separate set of winter tires?

Here in Bozeman MT we refer to "all season" tires as "no season"...kinda suck in summer and really suck in winter! That said, I got my LR4 in mid-February with all season tires and was really impressed with how well it handled. However, this coming Autumn I will probably get a set of winter...

Kuat NV Bike Rack (hitch mount) on LR4

I really like the Kuat NV, but at 49 lbs it isn't "light". My wife can install/remove it pretty easily, but complains about the weight for carrying it around (ie to/from the garage). It helps to install/remove with the rack in the folded position. Kuat NV Core is 41 lbs, but is missing the...

    Installing hitch mount bike rack

I'm using Kuat NV and love it. It is very secure, and although it is not rated for "off road", I've used it driving some pretty rough roads to access trailheads and it held bikes securely. Definitely get the 3rd gen (current model) hitch receiver. It works great and is much cleaner than the...

    CB Radio

I will be interested to hear how you like that after some off-road use. I used to have a similar configuration and for desert 4-wheeling I got really tired of the antenna slapping the vehicle every time a branch snagged it - but snagging palo verde and mesquite is near incessant in deserts...

    CB Radio

In my experience firesticks work fine bumper mounted (ie to a brush bar, etc), but are too stiff for mounting to any sheet metal. Whip gives better reception, makes for a nice sleek installation, and the actual wire whip is easily replaced if/when it gets damaged (like that time I caught it...

    CB Radio

In the past I have installed Wilson 5000 CB antennas on Toyota trucks and Land Cruiser, and been really happy with the performance. Using the permanent installation with threaded base, the antenna removes easily and there is just a 'button' cover on the mount base when the antenna is not in...

Parts quiz – can someone tell me what that is??! Please!

Indeed I misunderstood what you were asking about. In 2011 LR4 I also have the metal tabs welded to the frame, but nothing attached to them (no bracket). Seems you can safely discard the bracket. Meanwhile, tt would be interesting to know what those metal tabs on the frame are for...

Check Engine Light / Erased Smart Key

Indeed battery unplugged for a few minutes reset both the check engine light, and restored the key codes (so key FOBs work again)! Unfortunately, I dropped Rover at the repair shop *before* posting to the forum, so paid for an hour of shop time for the same information (plus telling me what the...

Parts quiz – can someone tell me what that is??! Please!

It is a vibration damping weight (to damp frame harmonic vibrations). There is one on each side, although they are different sizes.

    Stereo Equalizer

There was a post a few months ago (I think on this forum) giving helpful instructions for optimizing the bass/mid/treble as well as balance/fade, but I'm not aware of any access to an actual EQ.

Check Engine Light / Erased Smart Key

Regarding 2011 LR4 HSE Lux (with smart key): Yesterday my Check Engine light came on. In know...correct solution is to place a piece of black tape so you can't see the light, but I wanted to know what was throwing an error. I stopped at my local parts store for a rear wiper blade and as...

Silencing horn with suspension remote use

No horn/sound. I bought used, so conceivably the prior owner had a setting changed, but there is no horn sound when raising/lowering with the key fob.

    LR4 3rd Row & Kids...

I also have Radian car seat mounted on one side, and an infant car seat on the other side. Middle seat folded flat works pretty well for accessing the 3rd fow seats. This week my dad was in town and he preferred to access the 3rd row through the rear gate (with one of the 3rd row seats...

Silencing horn with suspension remote use

I tested this to confirm on 2011 LR4 HSE-Lux; hazard flashers MUST be on, but suspension raising and lowering works as mentioned above. There is no sound from the horn. It is sort of annoying that hazards must be on, so for example you can't approach with an armload of groceries and drop the...

    2011 vs 2013 LR4

I test drove a few 2012 and 2013 models, and settled on a 2011 HSE Lux. Entertainment and navigation got a major upgrade for 2012, with new nav interface and additional speakers on the premium sound package. Head rest displays are larger for 2012. I understand that 2012 console display is...

LR4 Rear Mud Flap Installation Instructions

Thanks for the great article! I installed all 4 last night on 2011 LR4. It took about an hour, with "assistance" from my 3 yr old. Definitely off road height is very helpful. On the front, turn the wheels to get them out of the way (turned to the right while working on the right side...

Led running lights on LR4 2011 HSE LUX

With my 2011 HSE-Lux the LED's are ON as long as lights are set to "auto" and vehicle is in 'drive'. Of course you can't see this when you're behind the wheel, only when pulling up to a reflective surface, or when someone else is driving.
