    2015 LR4 - Battery died, now doors won't lock

Disconnect battery negative, wait...(1 minute, 10 minutes, 30 minutes...depends who you ask) solves a lot of gremlins with LR's. Same key fob problem happened when I let an auto shop tech perform a "free scan" and reset codes...fortunately the "disconnect negative terminal and wait" trick did...

    LR4 - LCA - Longevitiy/Diagnostic

I'm very happy with the orange poly bushings installed in 2018...still going strong with moderate off-roading and Montana roads. https://www.landroverworld.org/threads/front-control-arm-replacement.40183/page-2#post-204532 As to "when it is time", have someone turn the vehicle right/left a bit...

    Heated Windshield

As stated earlier, the wires are inside the vehicle under the A pillar trim. The heating element wires are sandwiched between the layers of glass, and route to the inside of the windshield. I suppose a shop could fail to connect the wires, but that would be a pretty major "oops", hard to...

    Heated Windshield

Connections to the heated windshield are behind the left and right A pillar covers. Gently remove the plastic cover marked "airbag" and use a T30 driver to remove the screw. Once the screw is out, the cover pulls away easily. When putting it back, take care to nicely tuck things in, and make...

Ticking nose or just ticking bomb?

My 2011 LR4 has been giving me what seems to be the same noise for 6+ years with no further problems. Some years ago I searched forums and convinced myself that it was just a feature. When I first noticed it I was sure it was either a failing water pump or timing chain...but after years of...

    2011 LR4 Transmission TCM failure

2011 LR4 L319 with 101K miles rather suddenly started throwing a general transmission failure when shifting from D to N, R, or P. GAP IID tool shows "general electrical failure" of the transmission control module (TCM). Investigation by local mechanic concluded an electronics problem in the...

Opinion Needed: Range Rover SC or Range Rover Sport SC?

I'm driving a 2011 LR4 and bought a 2013 RRS for my mother, who lives 2 miles up a dirt driveway in the mountains near Bozeman MT (read extreme four-wheeling for much of November to May). Although the RRS and LR4 are different bodies on the same undercarriage and driveline, they handle...

    Front Control Arm Replacement

About a year ago I did the LCA bushings on my 2011 LR4. In Montana we don't use salt, so bolts came out pretty easily (no cutting needed). AB Polybush kit went in fine after using a sawzall to remove the original (see Atlantic British video). Immediately noticed a difference in the steering...

    Suspension Position Long Time Parking

There is a good stash point where the keyfob is out of range of any sensors. For obvious reasons I'm not posting, but feel free to PM me.

Very intermittent problem - Smart Key Not Found

A cell phone is a pretty good Faraday shield and so will often block the key signal. Once blocked I find that usually I have to use the 'key under the steering column' trick (as described in the owners manual) to start the engine, and then all gets back to working normally. Having a 2011 LR4...

    Snow Chains

Rud Grip 0141 chains work great on my 2011 LR4 with 19" wheels (stock setup). I rarely use them, but recently needed to pull out an Audi A8 fully high-centered in the barrow ditch where I had to pull uphill. No chance without the chains, as it was about a 10% grade and there was a sheet of ice...

    Heated windshields

Recently had 2011 LR4 HSE-Lucx windshield replaced, and Safelite put in an aftermarket windshield. I protested a little, but they assured me it would be OK. As soon as frost season came it was clear that the right side windshield heater was not working. Checked fuses, and sure enough right...

Looks better with a sump guard, I'm using FrontRunner and really like it

General thoughts on buying a 2011 LR4 with 100k miles?

Both Auto Works (Four Corners) and Auto Stop (Bozeman) work on Rovers and do good work. In particular, I like Auto Stop. There are a lot of Rover owners in Bozeman, happily keeping them running. The only real problem is lack of warranty support (only a dealer 500 miles away can provide...

General thoughts on buying a 2011 LR4 with 100k miles?

If by "dealer" you mean LR dealer, then they can give you records of at least all service done at a LR dealership. With those options, $23k seems pretty fair. A base model might go for $19..$20K but for a Lux in good shape, this seems fair. If you spend a little time on the forum, you will...

Voltmeter / USB charge port install

I'm using Battery Tender Junior, it is dinky but seems just fine for my purposes. I like that it is very compact and unobtrusive. The Schumacher 1562A is a charger (vs just maintainer). I don't need to recharge, just topping off/maintaining. I keep an AntiGravity XP-3 in my 2011 LR4 after...

    Lr4- ...sold

I just bought a 2013 RRS for $15.5K (140K mi) from a dealer that really wanted to unload it. He told that this price range is really tough to sell because banks won't loan money due to mileage and age, but people who can simply pay $15K to $20K cash instead buy something newer. You're...

Voltmeter / USB charge port install

This is a very nice writeup and clean result - almost tempted me to do the same! However, after considering the work, I opted for a plug-in solution. I really only want to monitor voltage occasionally for diagnostic purposes (ie suspect battery is dying...), so got a plug-in module ReVIVE Dual...

    Lr4- ...sold

FWIW, AutoTrader has served me well, both as a seller and as a buyer. Looks like a great vehicle, someone's gonna be lucky!

2010-2013 LR4 HSE Lux Horse towing and aftermarket off road installs.

2011 LR4 HSE Lux does a very nice job of pulling a 2 horse trailer with electric brakes, using the OEM hitch. However, I definitely feel the weight. Going up a long steep winding gravel driveway I appreciated low range and traction control, but it handled just fine. I wouldn't want to pull a...

2016 LR4 ran out of gas, how to clear CEL?

When in doubt, disconnect negative battery cable, wait 10 seconds, reconnect. Cost me $80 to learn that from a local shop when I ran out of gas and couldn't clear errors.

Lessons from a dead battery and where you hang your keys

Key proximity to the LR4, keeping it 'awake' and draining the battery has been discussed in several other threads on this forum. It is definitely a problem on my 2011 HSE Lux. I have solved the problem by making a point to have the key at more than a meter from the vehicle. There is a...

Favorite Roof Rack? (boats, boards and a storage box)

My vote is for LR long roof rails plus Thule aero crossbars. IMHO Thule makes the nicest crossbars, and the feet are reasonably low profile. Once you have a good pair of crossbars, you can use whatever accessories/mounts you want (as you obviously already know).

    door panel removal

On 2011 LR4 HSE Lux there was an annoying bass rattle coming from the wood inlay on the rear right door. Tapping, I could feel that the wood inlay was just a bit loose. Once I figured out how to remove the chrome pieces (thanks ElJefe!) it was pretty easy to remove the door panel, remove the...

    Help! Sunroof stuck open!

2011 LR4 sunroof has been stuck closed (...luckily!) for ~3 months. Fuses are fine. Finally searched the forums and found this thread. Holding the 'shut' button for ~25 seconds solved the problem. I did it with the ignition ON but engine OFF. Thanks again to this forum and great community...
