    this is really an issue? maybe i got really lucky. i had no problem at all just loosely placing the valve in place and a light tap with a rubber mallet clipped in the housing. i think i spent all of 10 minutes replacing them, 8 minutes of which would have been trying to remove the old ones...

    ive been using the wildpeak at trails on my lr4 for a little over a month now. they are as quiet as any street-only all season, no noticable noise with windows up or down. and they handle excellent in rain and through somewhat deep puddles. haven't had a chance to use in snow yet.

    Good price or crack pipe?

    i thought the timing chain problem effected all of the engines (V8 and V6 SC), but is more prominent on the V8. due to both age and older part revisions on the V8.

    nothing else special to do. i can say that drum brakes are a pain in the ass, but overall there is nothing different on thees cars than any other. i did my fronts in 20 min per side. rears took a while longer due to drums and parking brake adjustment.

    the cast pieces may have been OEM, but i do not think Land rover sells re-manufactured calipers; they only sell new calipers. they also sell a reseal kit, for someone else to rebuild the calipers. your calipers were most likely refinished and re-manufactured (resealed) by an aftermarket company...

    cant hurt to ask the shop. you could also pull a wheel off and look for a sign of part numbers. when looking over those photos again, the first photo is definitely surface rust. the second photo looks to be gold toned, mostly likely the caliper finish.

    Battery at resting 12.8 volts doesn't mean the battery is good. need to measure the voltage drop as the car is attempted to be started. this sounds like a bad battery. when was the last time the car was started?

    agree. cheaper steel, bad coating, corrosion. hopefully it stays as cosmetic corrosion, but if it gets into the seal area, they may have a shorter life than OEM (or higher quality aftermarket) you could go through the work to remove and paint them.
