    Another Defender hint?

I am in the ever shrinking camp of those who believe that the Land Rover engineers who desigened and built it might have thought of that one before fitting an accessory 10K lbs Warn winch to the Defender.'s front end. I realize that, these days, there are countless forum experts with cautionary...

    Another Defender hint?

Good news for anyone worried about aftermarket support, as Lucky8 and others are feverishly working on off-roading bits to improve the new Defender. Check out these beauties - hefty looking rock sliders with nerf bars and "my" PD1880 18" Compomotive wheels with 33" tires fitted on a P400...

    Another Defender hint?

Commercial versions of SUVs are quite common on Europe, even loaded to the gills with luxury features, since pickup trucks basically don't exist and are considered an American aberration... There are substantial tax benefits for company owners over there to purchase this vehicle instead of the...

    Another Defender hint?

For all you DeMuro's lovers. He does talk about the market competition for the new Bronco, and correctly points out - in my opinion, anyway - that the new Defender ain't it: I don't know, this new Bronco has been so hyped up on looks, sleek promo videos and paper specs alone, that it's got...

    Small body hardware

Any of these look familiar? I am thinking perhaps part # 10 in the first diagram? https://www.landrovermerriamparts.com/v-2013-land-rover-lr4--hse-lux--5-0l-v8-gas/body--liftgate

Let's try to get the facts down on tensioner issues

2013 5-liter V8 with 225,000 miles. Been changing oil and filter religiously myself every 7500 miles since it was in the teens, at first with regular Mobil 1 5W-20, then with Mobil 1 5W-20 EP, and for the past 60K miles or so with Mobil 1 5W-30 EP High Mileage. No noises, no CELs, no engine issues.

    Another Defender hint?

Hopefully the actual Bronco will be built tougher than their web site. :) It's only a $100.00 fully refundable "reservation", sounds great that it crashed the web site, but didn't Land Rover claim that they got something like 2 million saved configurations on their own web site within a week of...

    Another Defender hint?

If you are happy with the 300 HP engine and keep options to a minimum (it comes pretty well equipped even in basic form), you can get a new 110 S, loaded with all the available off-road goodies and packs, for less than 55k. That's not what you'll find at most dealers currently, but not all new...

    Traction control/ESC issues

Check the tire pressure (cold), regardless of what the installer told you my guess is that they may be under - or over - inflated. If they are extra load and not LT / E-load, you should stay close to Land Rover's recommended pressure numbers, perhaps a handful of PSI lower or higher depending on...

    LR4 vs Defender

Even in its golden years (the 90s) the Defender never sold more than 8/9k vehicles per year on average in all of Europe. In the late 2000s and until they pulled the plug in 2016, sales got so ridiculously low, it's amazing LR manufactured it for as long as they did. Nobody wanted it anymore...

    LR4 vs Defender

The Grenadier looks and sounds great on paper, but it's a long time to a real finished product inside and out, and to actual customer deliveries - end of 2021 being the current estimate. Who will service it here in North America outside of major cities where Ineos dealers are likely to be...

    LR4 vs Defender

I actually looked it up, as that solution would solve several problems for me. For a custom designed, high quality lightweight hard shell tent that you can deploy in 10 seconds, the estimated price is not outrageous actually (the non-bespoke offerings from Autohome, which manufactures this one...

    LR4 vs Defender

You can "manually", via touchscreen, lock center and rear differentials (if your Defender is so equipped - only center locking diff is standard on all trims, while rear lockers and configurable Terrain Response are separate and optional packs on all trims except the loaded Defender X), but no...

    LR4 vs Defender

Bit off topic. We are assuming a D130 is around the corner... But business plans for many car manufacturers have changed big time in the past 90 days, and news today doesn't sound so rosy for JLR as far as new models are concerned, see link below. They may end up cutting one or more existing...

    Another Defender hint?

Nice video of a dealer's 1st Edition Defender climbing a fairly challenging Colorado trail. As pointed out in the comments, this particular model was fitted with good off-road tires (BFGs I believe), but does not come with the optional rear locking diff. Still, it did quite well.

Everything about tires for LR4/ LR3 with 18" wheels

The Compo PD1881 got roughly an 8 to 10-year head start over competitors such as TuffAnt, Evo Corse, etc. They started manufacturing the PD1880 (later replaced by PD1881, virtually identical) way back in 2007, years before the LR4 was even introduced, as the only 18" wheel that would fit over...

    TOYO AT3 255/55/19

The next size up (255/60R19) may be an even better choice for the LR4, if you'll take it off-road regularly. A bit of extra sidewall never hurts.

    Another Defender hint?

Yeah, cargo space is not critical for me, so losing nearly a foot of floor back there is no biggie, though the better rear passengers space will be welcome now that my twin daughters have grown... legs and are out of their booster seats. I probably won't be able to sleep in the car anymore (I am...

    Another Defender hint?

This illustrates how the unique combination of refinement and utility of the LR4 will be real tough to replicate in future vehicles. The new Defender is no match for the LR4 when it comes to hauling people and stuff - for a midsize SUV. 2nd row legroom looks perhaps more spacious in the...

    Another Defender hint?

Dealer says late August delivery now, barring civil unrest, earthquakes, wildfires, floods, killer hornets, locusts, zombie apocalypse, livestock pestilence, water turning to blood or other plague.
