LR4 Transmission Fluid Change: Pan Swap Option

Just finished this project along with the Sonnax zip kit for the valve body. She is just purring now. I was having rough downshifts for highway passing and they are completely gone. I'll make a separate post about the ZF6 zip kit but a few things for here: -The @ryanjl amazon ratchet is a must...

Greasy transmission, should I be worried?

This looks like engine oil and despite the ugliness is probably not a major issue. I has a slight weep from the passenger valve cover that was annoying in our last 2013 that made a similar mess but was not a threat to the vehicle at all. Wipe some of it and smell it and see if it smells like...

Towing - I Have Not Done My Homework...

She tows 6000# of non aerodynamic stuff just fine with that V8 torque. Hate the surge brakes on Uhauls but I subsequently got a pickup with a real towing setup and my own trailer for the Jeep adventures.

    ZF8HP70 for ZF6HP28 swap?

If you live anywhere in the lower 48 you can do 125 in a V8 LR4 on the Maine turnpike on the way to see OP in Bath. I might have, maybe, just might have heard of a guy who did that once or twice: might be a lie, but who knows? I'm pretty sure they could land A380s on certain sections of that...

    ZF8HP70 for ZF6HP28 swap?

I can tell you from direct experience the ZF8 blows away the ZF6. Not even close: blows it away. It not just about 2 more gears. It just works better and feels better. Maybe it was BMW mapping. I had 2 X6s with the V8/ZF8 and three LR's with the ZF6: I would die to have the ZF8 behind my 5.0...

LR4 Transmission Fluid Change: Pan Swap Option

Yup, Park is fine. Ignore that part of the Aston Martin links. Lots of things are different. I will post when done.

LR4 Transmission Fluid Change: Pan Swap Option

Perhaps a dumb question (but there aren't any): What gear should I be in when I go to pull the Mechatronics unit? The Aston martin links talk about zip tying the emergency gear selector into neutral from park but why would I not just shift to neutral normally? I can do that without starting the...

LR4 Transmission Fluid Change: Pan Swap Option

That set is sweet, how could I not spend $12 on that? Will show up after the job is done but handy to have, thanks!

LR4 Transmission Fluid Change: Pan Swap Option

I have embarked on this project and the first issue I ran into was not having a T-40 short enough in the front and back behind the cross members. My solution is pictured. A Bosch T-40 bit duck taped into at 1/4" closed end wrench. Works like and absolute champ. I just undid the front and back...

bad lower ball joint lead to howling?

I have a 2013 with 115k. I had previously posted about this noise when weight transferred to the front RIGHT last year. Not so much a howling as a metal brushing noise but in the same category. I already had new OEM control arms so I replaced the wheel bearing (pretty easy job on these) and it...

LR4 Transmission Fluid Change: Pan Swap Option

Well, its freezing here so I don't think it will be a problem! Serendipitously, Samcrac just went through this with his easier to acess 06 RR, you can skip to about 4 mins in: He decided to do the zipfix kit and valve body separator plate. Hmmmmmm.....

LR4 Transmission Fluid Change: Pan Swap Option

These are epic. Thank you. Now I am wondering if my life will be easier if I take the time to remove the cross member to more carefully remove the mechatronic? I work at home and we have other vehicles so if it is taking up the garage for a long weekend it is not a bother. Thoughts anyone?

LR4 Transmission Fluid Change: Pan Swap Option

Hey, all, I am embarking on this and thanks everyone for the info and videos. Can anyone recommend the best video for replacing these parts? https://www.thectsc.com/products/sealing-sleeve-and-adapter-kit-6hp26/28/32-242-130.html The main electronic seal is woefully inadequately covered by...

    Control arm fail

I made the mistake of getting the poly bushing ones for our last 2013. This one has the OEM replacements. Readers be warned. Ride quality goes way down and apparently they can explode?

    Discover 4 2012 with 6HP28 ZF transmission

Read this entire thread, as I have done, before embarking on this journey. We need an AI to summarize it. Anyone? Beuller? https://www.landroverworld.org/threads/lr4-transmission-fluid-change-pan-swap-option.28828/

    Blinking headlight

I would not recommend changing both at the same time... Why? BC they then burn out at the same or similar time. Ask my wife how we know.

Front-end suspension rattle and banging is gone!

There are probably hundreds of posts on here about the timing chain issue and the quotes to do them are all over the map depending on dealer vs. indy shop. Interestingly, In all my time on the forum there are a lot of loose chains but not one post I can remember of the engine skipping time and...

    Lug Nuts Will Not Budge

I just had this happen to one of mine at 105k so I replaced them all with the same OEM lugs. They must have gotten them from the same place as those damn Ford ones.

Poor idle control with AC on

So you think it's an electronic or throttle body issue? Maybe an electrical issue if the AC is drawing a lot of amps? Alternator? The battery is also getting old and I know an old battery in a landy causes mystical and bizarre issues sometimes.

Poor idle control with AC on

Boy, I was hoping to just get back there behind it but I can see how that is probably much easier. Thank you.

Poor idle control with AC on

It's a rats nest behind the intake manifold. I can see the vacuum lines but not manipulate them even when I unbolt the wiring harness. Does anyone know of a tutorial for moving it? Maybe as part of the rear crossover replacement?

Poor idle control with AC on

Thank you for that tip, no wonder I couldn't find it in the front. Any clue if these two empty connectors on the front are part of the problem? Should these be like this?

Poor idle control with AC on

Hi, all, I've had increasingly poor idle control when the AC is on over the last year. With AC off the engine purrs at 800rpm but with it on, and especially at a stop, the engine waxes and wanes between 1100 and 900 like a constant thrumming at about 30-45 times per minute. There is also a...

    LR4 Injector Replacement

There is also a Samcrac video on a RRS, I believe, where he eventually used a jack and got them out much easier. Edit: I think he connected the slide removal tool to an engine hoist chain. Cave man type stuff, but it worked.
