LR4 Transmission Fluid Change: Pan Swap Option

The mess comes mostly when you remove the pan. This fluid has odd properties where it will just take hours and hours to stop oozing out of the underside of the valve body.

2012 - Decreased power on incline

Sounds like it's not downshifting when it should if rpms don't increase on the hill. Did you try manual mode and sand mode? Do the same thing and stay in first and see if it flys up the hill.

2012 - Decreased power on incline

I still don't understand this one. If you floor it from a stop up a hill what exactly happens? If nothing is slipping (slipping=engine revving but vehicle not moving any faster) then either it is choosing too high of a gear (shifting to manual and holding first to near redline can test this) or...

    maintenance history since new 2013

Did you notice any big improvement with the plug change? I'm at 109k and I don't think they have been changed.

2012 - Decreased power on incline

Next time this happens put the vehicle in "sand" mode. The one with the cactus. If it doesn't leap up the hill like a scalded cat, something is indeed wrong. Tranny had a service yet? First symptom I noticed when the fluid got old was reluctance to downshift and a clunk when it did.

    Highest mileage LR4?

Say all you want, I had two N63's: a '13 and a "revised" '16. Burned oil like crazy, both of them. I knew the BMW guys very well and off the record they said they would never own one out of warranty or even with one past 50k because your car will be in the shop or you will be adding oil every...

Why do american trucks get much better mpg that the lr4?

Here in the NE the winter blend is also dragging down fuel mileage. Just did 500 miles at 80 and only got 17mpg. In the summer it would be 18.5. Yes, these things eat a lot more gas with each mph over 65, I've noticed, don't need Bernoulli for that!

    Highest mileage LR4?

These injectors are known to get dirty and noisy. I'm finding this 2013 running quieter using seafoam every other tank (we only put 5-8k miles a year on her so it seems more often than it is) than our last one not doing that. Also, seafoam in the oil for a few hundred miles before an oil change...

    Failed emissions - no faults

There is a whole thread about the LR4 not having any codes but "not being ready" and the issue goes back to the DII's. There is a specific driving sequence that has to be done for it to consider itself "ready" and it is a pain. On of the requirements that I eventually did that pushed mine to...

    Batteries

Marketing is one of the answers to your question. Look at all the VWs and Audis or nissans and Infinitis that are the same vehicle with slightly different fenders and interior materials. Google "brand positioning"

    Highest mileage LR4?

I like the positive news idea. We got our 2nd LR4 in fall of 2020. A 2013 with 68k miles. The only reason it has ever been to the dealer is to program a new key since my wife lost one fob (what a fiasco, the dealer not my wife). Frequent home walmart mobil 1 Oil changes, a battery, lots of...

    Highest mileage LR4?

As a CFO and former engineer I can tell you there is simply no way to make the math work on these things, you have to factor love of the vehicle in or you are screwed.

    Idle Help

Following because I have an intermittent unsteady idle only when HVAC is on, kind of a mild die off immediately followed by a mild surge, like hunting on a generator. If I shut HVAC off it goes away. I was thinking maybe the compressor on the way out.

    Highest mileage LR4?

Thanks for this, you guys are making me feel like our 2013 with 108k is a spring chicken and I'm banking it is. It's paid off, it ain't worth much so we are riding this one into the sunset.

Anyone care to admit this was them? Off the edge of a cliff and recovery from Matt's Offroad Recovery.

I think you have to do a lot of wheeling and then look at the video to realize that in never, ever does sketchiness any justice. Been wheeling Jeeps for 20 years and this video had my skin crawling numerous times with 6000# above them with sketchy rocks allegedly holding it up and extremely...

Anyone care to admit this was them? Off the edge of a cliff and recovery from Matt's Offroad Recovery.

Been watching them for a while. That was easily the sketchiest recovery I've seen them do. It was an LR3, and I'd love to know the back story, but glad to know you can roll off the side of a cliff and deploy every bag in the whole rig and walk away in one of these things.

    Metal coolant plumbing for LR4?

There was a thread on here about a guy doing prototypes of this but it never appeared to come to fruition to my knowledge.

    Increased Performance

Couldn't agree more. We bought our second 2013 with 68k and now it's at 108k it is running as good or better based on the basic maintenance advice from this forum including a bunch of Seafoam on both gas tanks and 100 mi b4 oil changes and tranny services.

Model year and mileage would help for context. Oil leak or seepage or sort of wet? Amount of oil helps.

    Ironman 4x4 Drawers

That is a sweet set of drawers. One car I had, can't remember which, maybe the Jeep Commander, had the same spare mounting location as the LR4 but instead of a winch it was on there with a threaded rod and the tire holder piece had a nut welded onto it. Less convenient than the winch situation...

What are these and should I be concerned that 1 is broken? Engine mount base plate?

So I have discovered that these are the engine mounts but no info I can find as to whether it matters. I guess I'll let you know!

    P1707-77 Transmission Fault

But that's a stock $$$$ Land Rover thing to do. Have you ever changed your tranny fluid? Might be past time. Mine got wonky at 90 some k and a fluid change and a thing of Lube Guard mostly cleaned it up. I recently rebuilt the valve body with a zip kit and it is completely better.

2013 LR4 - Transmission Sonnax Zip Kit Completed - The Results

Hey all. I just did the Sonnax Zip Kit on my 2013 LR4 with the ZF6 HP28. Per this thread, I, of course, ordered the wrong separator plate and had time to film this info because it was not obvious from my research I had an A063 vs A065. Hope it helps those who come after me. A few other points...

What are these and should I be concerned that 1 is broken? Engine mount base plate?

See pics. Found while I spend hours under the Landy for transmission service. Appears to be bottom of engine mount? Passenger is broken and driver is pristine. I have done a LOT of damage to the underside of many vehicles but there appears to be no obvious path to this being smashed on this...

    Removing rear seats?

Threads like this are what has me eyeing up $8k LR4s on FB marketplace. Would love to strip one out and delete so much stuff if I can get the engine and tranny in shape. Al
