2016 Land Rover LR4 (Discovery 4) Project Build

They are just a pain to remove, that's all. They feel like they are going to break and you can end up with bloody fingers, but in the end they will come out. Using an old credit card to get some leverage might help. There was a thread here somewhere with this exact topic.

    LR4 Accessories

@ncburch22 You bought a drug mule truck! Enjoy the heroin! :D

    LR4 Accessories

Indeed, but there is a lot to be desired in the standard LR stereo considering the price of the truck. I have had $20k econo shitbox rental cars with 10x better sound. But yea, I know modern electronics is LR's Achilles heel.

    LR4 Accessories

Cool! Thanks for the pics! This is the first LR specific enclosure I have seen. Our trucks are pretty damn neglected for anything aftermarket audio. The big issue I know is they use a fiber optic bus from the main dash unit to the factory amp. It makes tapping into signals a nightmare. I have...

    LR4 Accessories

@ncburch22 I see in your sig, you say you installed a 10" JBL sub. Any details on that? How did you connect signal for it? Any pics?

Everything about tires for LR4/ LR3 with 18" wheels

You won't have rubbing issues at 265/65 either, but you would have to remove heat shield and air down a bit to fit the spare. I'd imagine the 265/60 should fit under there, but you would need to ask someone else who runs them for sure.

    Sand Driving - Experiences/Technique/Equipment

I used to run Nitto Dune Grapplers, tho I really didn't care much for the look of the treads. That said, they were excellent in the sand. They were pretty much great for dry pavement and sand, which is this country's environment 99% of the time. They performed average to bad on anything else...

    Sand Driving - Experiences/Technique/Equipment

It should go without saying, but there is a huge difference between a tow strap and a recovery ("snatch") strap. The recovery strap is somewhat elastic and is meant to use some vehicle momentum to add potential energy to the recovery strap. A big rubber band effect, essentially. Fix the recovery...

    Sand Driving - Experiences/Technique/Equipment

MaxTrax should be priority #1 to make life easier for you! https://maxtrax.com.au/ Since airing down each trip out in the sand (and I deflate my full sized spare to fit under in the stock location), I also carry an air compressor. I use the ARB that comes in what looks like a plastic toolbox...

Buzzing sound when raising from low clearance to regular height

Also keep in mind, the compressor doesn't just run to fill the air suspension only. There is a pretty big steel air reservoir tank running the length of the passenger side along the frame. The compressor will run until that reservoir is up to X pressure. NOT just when the vehicle hits whatever...

High Range to Low Range Scarry Feeling

Yea, I can definitely see in your situation speed with low range is pointless. But my terrain up steep sand dunes where speed / momentum is key along with some beefy torque. So yea, I occasionally use 4 Low at high speed. 90% of the dunes out here don't need it, but there are areas where it...

    Installed 275-55-20 tires on 20x9.5 +32 wheels

We should make a sand driving thread and stop hijacking this one! :D I am from Florida and know exactly what sugar sand is. Stuff is no joke. Here it can vary greatly in certain spots, which you try and avoid. I am contracting in Qatar in the Middle East, hence the crazy sand dunes. US coastal...

    LR4 Headlights Flicker?!?!

Yea, if you haven't checked your battery I would start there. Especially if you haven't changed it ever on your 2012. My dealer replaced my 2013 when it was just 3 years old. You might be overdue.

High Range to Low Range Scarry Feeling

This is not true. You get all the available gears 1-6, they are just far shorter giving more torque and far less top speed. You cut your speed down massively, but nowhere near that bad. (I drive dunes in low gear quite often) And to the Original Poster: Never swap High / Low range on the move...

    Installed 275-55-20 tires on 20x9.5 +32 wheels

Good overall post! As you said, conditions will vary results massively. This also goes for low range. I am literally in the desert scaling 100-150ft sand dunes. That extra torque grunt makes life a hell of a lot easier when you are trying to maintain momentum. While doable without low gearing, I...

    Water Pump leak / TSB?

Yea, they did a pressure test. Found the pump and the crossover pipe leaking. Both are being replaced under warranty. I should be picking up my truck tomorrow. :)

    Lower control arm question

Mine went way before 40k. At a guess, around 28k-30k miles. I off-road a lot and live in a desert where temps are brutal in the summer.

2016 Land Rover LR4 (Discovery 4) Project Build

Looks amazing! Nearly the perfect setup, IMO! As mentioned before though, I would ditch the Rods and use an IID Tool. I have the exact same wheel / tire setup and size as you and even with stock height I have no rubbing. You can use the IID Tool to raise as needed for off-road use.

HD Pack - after sale installation?

Yea, friend had a Wrangler and always complained about it as a daily driver. It drove like a tank, he couldn't even fit his golf clubs in back without removing the seat (2dr), the audio sucked BAD, etc etc. I know it is significantly cheaper than an LR4, but the Jeep has far far too much plastic...

HD Pack - after sale installation?

Yea, Defender has always been far more utilitarian. Not all the crazy lux bells and whistles. There's no way they should expect to price it anywhere near the LR4. This SVO SVX whatever version of the LR4 will probably be nosebleedingly expensive. 80-90k at a guess.

    Lower control arm question

Going over sharper bumps like medium stones on harder surfaces pronounced the first clunks that I heard. When I took it to the dealer, the service guy performed the exact same procedure you described. Go slow and give hard jabs on the brake pedal.. sure enough, you could hear the clunk with each...

    Gps maps update

All cars need Google Maps. It's the gold standard at this point. No need to re-invent the wheel and have each manufacturer doing their own crappy versions of Sat Navs with infrequent and expensive updating. Google will update constantly for free. I think Tesla is the only one using Google Maps?
