Drove the new Discovery and I'm totally confused now.

That's crazy. Yea, different country.. different market pricing. I wish my LR4 was worth what it is back stateside!

Drove the new Discovery and I'm totally confused now.

There are people on the Raptor forum getting MSRP already. It will soon drop below that. The dealers asking markup are just wishful thinking at this point. I don't think it helps these new trucks loaded up wear a $70k MSRP sticker. That's quite a leap over the previous gen. Not sure how...

Everything about tires for LR4/ LR3 with 18" wheels

I was going based on a quote from the dealer over here. It was far more expensive. But again, I can tell if a big ~32" off-road tire is low / flat. I also rotate all 5 tires.

Everything about tires for LR4/ LR3 with 18" wheels

Yea, I have no TPMS in mine. No plan on it either. Super expensive modules and kind of an idiot guide for tire pressure safety. Most of us here on the LR forum are enthusiasts can manage without. I can understand for soccer moms, etc.

Does Air suspension need to be in Offroad mode for Hoisting jack?

I would follow the manual. Honestly, mine isn't in English so I never bothered looking it up. I have lifted mine multiple times in normal or raised modes. I think only 1 time the truck went into Extended Access height .. which is honestly a sight to behold at least once when you own the truck...

Shame about the AC. Sounds like you did simply get a textbook lemon truck! I agree with that dream setup. I have owned 3 different 50i BMW trucks ('12 X5, '13 X6 M Sport 450hp version, and the redesigned '14 X5). Amazing engines that perform and sound incredible. The iDrive should be industry...

Drove the new Discovery and I'm totally confused now.

You are quoting an article from 2009. Don't know how you cut it, but that is not new. All of the other manufacturers going turbo engines are completely new designs. The SCV6 comes from an 8 year old V8 that they neutered down for .. reasons.

Drove the new Discovery and I'm totally confused now.

I have heard this argument before, but the truth is, the transmission is working the magic for you. The engine is down on hp / tq no matter how you cut it. The fact is, they could have mated the new transmission to the V8 and people would have been happy too. I am glad the combo worked for some...

Drove the new Discovery and I'm totally confused now.

@epiclr4 What AC issues did you have? It really isn't ever an issue discussed on this forum, so it can't be very common. Hell, I am in the middle east and regularly see 110-120F+ for a large part of the year. My AC has never let me down. I am still flabbergasted with LR's decision to downgrade...

Everything about tires for LR4/ LR3 with 18" wheels

You can just look under the back of your truck and see it. It is pretty obvious. Takes all of 2 minutes to remove. You can kind of see it in this pic. It is the black plastic looking thing between the spare and exhaust pipes.

What are the best tires for the LR3 ?

I ran 285/60 on my truck and loved them. Mine, however were mounted to Compomotive wheels, which I am pretty sure are 9" wide. They bulged a tad on those, I can only imagine they would be worse on 8" factory width. The only reason I went with that width tire is because I am in the desert running...

LR3 traction control engaging around corners

The time mine did this, I had 1 tire (big offroad tire) severely deflated due to a slow leak on one of my fronts. When I would make a tight turn at moderate speed, the TCS would engage.

Everything about tires for LR4/ LR3 with 18" wheels

My go-to Air Compressor is this ARB unit mounted inside a plastic tool box: https://www.amazon.com/ARB-CKMP12-Performance-Portable-Compressor/dp/B004P9A35E It is pricey, but ARB is a very high quality manufacturer and I also can store some misc tools, gloves, and my D-shackles inside the tool...

Everything about tires for LR4/ LR3 with 18" wheels

You can see a heat shield between the exhaust pipes and the spare tire area. You need to remove this, as the bracket that attaches it will take up half an inch or so of extra space. Pretty much everyone with 18" tires and ATs have removed this to fit bigger tires and I have never heard of a...

Drove the new Discovery and I'm totally confused now.

First off, what accountant is telling you to spend $70k to "save" $8k? Makes no sense. I definitely sympathize with you in that there is no real LR4 replacement on the market currently. LR moved from a 1 of a kind vehicle to competing with half a dozen other crossover soccer mom vehicles...

    LR4 Rust

My entire point is, for every 1 Defender or Discovery I see around there are thousands of LCs. New or old. If you are invading some local town and taking a truck, you are naturally going to end up with thousands of LCs / Hilux due to sheer numbers.. not because of quality preference.

    Coolant leak

I am guessing your truck is out of warranty? This a common issue and there is a TSB for it. Mine just went on my 2013 and I had it fixed under warranty a couple months ago.

    LR4 Rust

As a LR owner in the Middle East, the ISIS comment is pretty stupid. A new 2016 Defender D90 is going to cost you about $55k USD. Even in a rich country here like Qatar, they are crazy rare to be seen on the roads. I might see one in a few weeks? A new J40 Land Cruiser is about $25k USD and I...

    LR4 Rust

BMW has trickled some of it down, but you are right it isn't quite ready for prime time. The Carbon Core tech from the i3 made it into the new 7 series and was supposed to be included in the new 5 series, but was eventually nixed in the 5 due to cost. They went with the addition of a few...

    LR4 Accessories

Eh, rig lighting like that is semi-common out here when desert running / dune bashing at night. On a new moon night it's pretty damn tough to see anything. You can be cruising along and out of nowhere a 200+ft dune cliff appears in front of you! Scary as F. I've contemplated over the years to...

To buy an extended warranty on new to me Used LR4

Would LCA (bushings) even be covered under warranty anyway? They are a common wear and tear item on our heavy LR4s. Pretty much everyone I have heard with their first LCA issues are never covered even under manufacturer's warranty, myself included. Again, it's considered normal "wear & tear"...
