Strangely, my dealership swapped my battery out under warranty during a routine maintenance visit. I had no indications it was having issues, but they said it didn't pass their tests and replaced it for free.- Surfrider77

The alternator charges the battery. If the alternator fails, the truck is running on pure battery power and once that depletes you get the indications he is citing. (dead gauges, radio, etc, and finally loss of engine due to no spark for ignition). If you have a properly functioning alternator...- Surfrider77

My 2013 has had the steering noise for about a year now. To me, it sounds like it is some rubber gasket / shroud or whatever. But it sounds like it is coming from the steering column directly behind the wheel.- Surfrider77

That's odd you have lost 2 alternators that quickly. They are not a high failure item in the LR that I have heard of. It's going to be far far cheaper to replace this again vs buying a whole new truck. If it fails a 3rd time, I would definitely say you have some other electrical gremlin causing...- Surfrider77

What do you do with your smart phone in the LR4?
To answer the OP's question, I use a suction style holder similar to this one: https://www.amazon.com/iOttie-Holder-iPhone-Samsung-Galaxy/dp/B00JRGOKQ8 Mine is mounted over the gauge cluster hood, offset to the right. What do you do with your smart phone in the LR4?
Putting a magnet on your phone is crazy to me. You screw the compass over periods of time and there are other reported issues with NFC. Most phones use a small magnetic device called a magnetometer to keep the compass pointing north. (also used for maps apps) The OP said he was using an iPhone...- Surfrider77

Final Warranty Check - Suggestions?
Front lower control arm bushings. Seems to be the highest failure item on these trucks. Very well could be classed as a "wear and tear" item though. Worth asking anyway!- Surfrider77

Finally eliminated (275/65R18) tire rub at frame horn
Just FYI, that frame horn is in place to stop the wheel from being shoved into your legs in an off-center frontal collision. I think you could simply trim it back an inch and still fit your tires with ease. I don't know if I would be comfortable going all the way flush to the frame.- Surfrider77

I actually like the perforated shade because you can keep nice fresh air in the truck while keeping bugs and mosquitoes out. I have used a sleeping pad and sleeping bag a few times in the back of the LR4 with the perforated shade closed / sunroof wide open.- Surfrider77

LR5 Release Updates?
Well, that's a load of crap. Newer Samsung devices use "Adaptive Fast Charging" and varies on the charge cycle up to 9V. Sure it can still charge on the USB standard 5V, but its far slower. Sucks.- Surfrider77

I get very bored...so I decided to add tail pipes to the LR4, thoughts?
I had the Magnaflow exhaust put on my truck at one point. It comes with optional quad tip exhaust or you can have the standard exit where the stock is now. Although, the quads looked cool, functionally it would be a massive detriment. You lose a lot of departure angle with the exhaust hanging...- Surfrider77
