The obligatory "Show off your LR3' thread

Perhaps in Washington, but in rocky SoCal there is a noticeable difference when sliding over rocks with an aluminum belly pan. Tactical Rovers, whoever that is, is correct. The aluminum material is softer and "grabs" on the rock, often leading to a stuck whereas steel will just slide over...

Yes they do....who is "tactical Rovers"? They appear to have "borrowed liberally" from the design work of others. On one hand I'm like, WhooHoo! More off road stuff for LR3's, and great prices!. But the other part of me, "Hmmm...did they pay royalties for those products"?

The Motel 6 just across the river on the 40 (Needles? I can't remember), allows dogs and is super cheap.

My comment above was meant in jest, but it is true that as the photographer, I never seem to end up with any shots of me and my rig...unless I take them myself! So here is my example of the "perfect bow wave" (a bit tongue in cheek here), as seen from my drivers side rocker panel's perspective...

Not quite Pismo sugar, just sandy river bed. Third gear in low range pegging the rev limiter is fun. Bow Wave Too Slow: Too Fast:

In the LR3, I went through a full tank of gas, but did not need any more than the one tank. I did bring a Jerry can though, and so should you. It's about 140 miles of slow dirt driving, much of it in deep loose sand, where throttles are happiest buried into the floor matts :-) Fuel up at the...

I've done it lots of times. Great trip. I always go East to West. Ask me anything, what I don't know I am happy to make up :-) Here are some photo galleries of a few trips I have done: - http://nwoods.smugmug.com/Land-Rover/Off-Roading/Mojave-Trail-2009/ -...

Superwinch. Indefatigable. Smart gear design, good control unit too.

Cargo area differences, 5 seats vs. 7?

I had seats in my coiler that were unique from any others I saw. Perhaps its like those 60/40 seats described above? Here are my photos: I don't have a picture of the storage area under the tray behind the seats though. It's about 6" deep and the entire foot well area of the rear...

I've got them on my Nissan Armada. They have worked great in mild trail use, heavy rain, and lots of highway miles. They didn't last as long as I'd like, but the Armada is heavier than even the LR3!

    Noob with emblem question

Black oval = special vehicle, created or modifed by Land Rover for a specific purpose. VERY limited production, if any. Usually very unique and distinctive for one reason or another. Green oval = everything else.

    Noob with emblem question

With regards to LR3's, I can think of only a couple: - an authentic G4, which I'm not sure ever existed in north america, though I dimly remember maybe seeing one in storage at PAG in California before they relocated LRNA back to the east coast - one of the 2 dozen (or so) Nevada Passage...

    12v on passenger rear

Not sure about the passenger side, but there should be a harness on the rear passenger side. I wrote an article on it, but the photos are no longer online. Sorry! http://lr3tips.wordpress.com/2006/05/29/adding-a-rear-dc-outlet-to-the-lr3/

    Noob with emblem question

Black ovals have a historic origin, and are used by the factory to designate a Special Vehicle. - http://www.muddyoval.com/registry/index.htm Since I had one of the very few LR3's to be designated as such, I suspect yours just means someone bought stickers off eBay and stuck 'em on.

    Noob with emblem question

That's sorta like putting fake M3 stickers on a stock 3 series BMW. Either its a Special Projects Vehicle (black oval) or its not. Land Rovers are about authenticity.
