    Piston tolerance?

How’s do the rest of the engine internals look? I’ve read a few posts here and there about timing chain issues but most of them are on the V8’s. Most of of us here change oil around 5000-7500 miles so I’m curious.

    Coolant Temps - 5.0

For about two summers I had a few times where my coolant temperature would spike up to about 230 and the AC would shut off. I wasn’t sure why and didn’t think I was pushing the truck too hard. Turns out I had a really small leak in my radiator, and presumably I wasn’t holding pressure that...

    Hyundai just built a LR4

I really wish JLR didn’t blow the design of the Discovery 5. I’m probably going to end up buying one but will never get rid of my LR4. Can’t match the looks. Sole purpose of the 5 is to stop putting miles on the 4, and they’re relatively cheap compared to the new Defenders which I like.

Adding Pentofrost SF to OEM LR Coolant?

When I replaced my radiator I just went for OEM coolant from the dealer. They sell the concentrated formula and it was surprisingly cheap.

    Coolant Temps - 5.0

GAP IID tool. Any OBD reader should be able to get coolant temp off our vehicles.

    Coolant Temps - 5.0

230 is kinda hot on the coolant. That’s about where the car decides to shut off the AC and the gauge cluster coolant indicator will move. It’s not going to boil at 230 if it’s holding pressure. I forget what PSI our cars run at, I think it’s about 25-30 PSI. So around 280-300 degrees F. You...

    2015 LR4 SCV6 Gas Mileage

If you’re using the onboard computer they tend to read high. They’re around 7-10% optimistic on the mileage.

Chasing an HVAC issue and I need some help here...

Could be a blend door problem if you're getting cold air but no one else is.

    2015 LR4 SCV6 Gas Mileage

The snorkel? and roof rack are going to drop your MPG a little bit. Check out fuelly.com I've averaged 13.6 MPG over 76,000 miles, but I have the V8. Find a clean stretch of highway with little elevation change, set your cruise control to 55 or 65 MPH and reset the onboard trip and see what...

Tricking the air suspension to come on?

On the IID tool. Service/Test -> Suspension -> Build Mode. You can control every corner individually or link it all together. Sometimes it’s finicky when exiting build mode and getting it back into normal customer mode. You’ll get a message on your dashboard saying air suspension not in...

Tricking the air suspension to come on?

Turn the hazards on. Press and hold the headlight button and the unlock button at the same time to go up. Press and hold the headlight button and the trunk release button to go down. It can be finicky as you have to press the buttons at the same time. You can also go into build mode with...

Low Battery Warning while camping overnight....

You can also lock the car and just open the tailgate. The rest will stay locked. I have no idea what the power state of the vehicle is though. You also shouldn’t be able to lock your keys in your car this way (the lift gate will automatically unlock if you try) but I wouldn’t trust that...

Low Battery Warning while camping overnight....

I wouldn’t worry about it. I camp with my vehicle all the time and usually leave the tailgate open all day until I go to sleep. Our vehicles are smart enough to not **** their own battery. As your battery ages you’ll see that message more and more.

Has anyone installed these defender style lights?

Someone on one of the Facebook groups said those lights were terrible, but I can’t remember why.

Normal Ride Height Only - Cant Figure it out

I'd personally tear apart the rear valve block and just check the internals. Check all of your wiring connections and make sure you get good engagement with the connectors when you plug them back in. When you go into the Test/Service menu on your IID tool and Test Valves, can you hear any...

Just received my notice to put my deposit down on a Grenadier

I think I'm going to go for a Defender. R1S would be awesome but their values are still inflated and they haven't fixed the bed cover yet. Plus less confidence to overland it.

LR4 - Is there an equivalent in ride/driving experience?

I’ve actually been looking at D5’s. They depreciated a ton, however I still am not sold on the look. I’d love to have the diesel, but have heard they have some problems. I’m probably going to end up grabbing a Defender at some point, but would like to wait for prices to drop as I’m in no hurry.

Normal Ride Height Only - Cant Figure it out

Is sensor and sensor supply two different parameters? I would go back into your live values and double check that. All of your 4.9 volts are X height sensor supply. The 1.95 voltage reading is just height sensor voltage.

Trailer programming with GAP IID tool

From my research the trailer sway control does not require the trailer to be connected either. So there shouldn’t be any safety concerns. Same reason we don’t have a tow/haul mode. The transmission and other computers just adapt to the extra load.

    Long crank, no faults

You could try swapping coils around and see if they all have the same amount of spark. Probably a pretty barbaric test but might give you some info.

    Diagnosing AC Trouble

Our vehicles have variable output compressors. https://www.motor.com/magazine-summary/diagnosing-variable-displacement-compressors/ I think this is why the pressures vary a bit, and we can’t rely on using a standard chart of pressure vs temperature to diagnose. I did a little searching on...

    Diagnosing AC Trouble

I’m actually experiencing the same exact problems. Have also put a set of manifold gauges on and checked pressure with my IID tool. IID showing around 140 driving. Manifold gauges were showing 55/240 at around 100° F. I haven’t added any refrigerant or done any leak testing. I also only...

    LCA Skid Plates

We’ve had some people snap their LCAs but it seems to be mostly a problem with poly bushings.

Louder than “normal LR4” engine/idle noises POST timing chain replacement - help my friends! (audio/video link in post!)

I too was thinking the fan was hitting something. OP I would check the fan blades for gouging/scoring marks and the surrounding plastic.

    Air Suspension Performance

If you can start and drive it without your spare key fob it has to be somewhat close to the driver in my experience.
