calm down man... they are now using this outfit. http://www.zincnation.com/index.html
He said folks see great results from it, Eric mentioned that just spray painting them is fine and they don't rust. I might look into getting them powder coated anyway.. but he said his local place couldn't...
And they are sold!
Now I apparently have a project ahead of me. The Tactical sliders cost a bunch more and I have to paint them myself it sounds like. He uses some kind of new zinc aluminizing coating on them and said his powder coat guy can't work with it. So I will just use some kind of...
I have the "Adventure Medical Kits Mountain Series Easy Care Comprehensive" version, which is a little larger. I added a few little things to it and I think its enough for a decent extended trip.
my wiring runs along the driver side of the roof rack, back to the tailgate, and right now just into the tailgate between the rubber seal.
I am going to go to an off road shop soon and see what they think about a hole in the roof with a grommet to seal it. I have too much wire running out the...
I agree with you guys in general. I don't plan to leave them on all the time and I would never allow them to be 'worked on' by a shop. I will use them for specific situations and I will always remove and install them myself with utmost mechanical sympathy.
I am happy that my wheels wont be...
Multiple things I would strongly prefer not happen... 1. valet, 2. other people washing my car.
I have had bad experiences with both. And I don't so much care if I damage some paint using my rig, but if its going to get abused it is going to be by me.
Has anyone done any of the following?
1. swapped boddies on a newer style key fob?
2. Bought new key fobs and programmed them with the GAP IID tool?
3. Swapped or programmed an older chunky style fob on a newer (2013+) LR4?
My 2013 fob is pretty beat up. I like the look and durability of the...
So, This summer I have to park my rig in an undisclosed and undesirable location for longer than I would like, which means I got a bit paranoid about security of the rig.
One thing I wanted to do was throw some locking wheel nuts on. This proved to be a little trickier than I had hoped...
My Voyager sliders are still for sale since Todd went with new Voyagers.
PM me if interested. I started on fixing the edge that has a little rust today, but overall I think they will hold up for many more years. Minor rust after more than 2 years is ok by me.
Actually kinda hard to get a photo right now, but I just looked and the flat bottom part of the slider just ends under the A/C lines on the voyagers. The sand would not stay there very easily and you could easily brush or hose it out. It has no lip.
I wonder how you deal with sand on the...
I emailed you a picture of the front of the voyagers, its pretty closed off. The inner part of the slider sits flush with the sill all the way down, so no other places to get sand into. you could probably tape or silicone the gap and it would be sealed more or less from the front.
I might pull my sliders off and fix the minor rust on them soon (going to be nice this weekend). If anyone else is interested in buying my voyagers let me know.
Well now I'm finding my voyagers to be more special. I know they told me they zinced them and double coated them. I was just taking new pics of mine and it's been over two years since they were re coated.
As far as rack and ladder, I love their stuff.
Ya, i was a bit turned off originally, but they made it right and zinced them.. so all they have now is a little surface rust which is easily maintainable.
I mentioned above, UPS will ship them, so you can avoid freight. They barely make the cutoff or size I think.
Interesting.. so mine or special zinc edition sliders. Let me know if you are interested in mine.
edit: I found the shipping receipt. From Iowa to Florida it was $172 for UPS. So not bad, way easier than freight.
So, I got the Voyager sliders a few years ago and I really like the design overall. The round bars are really nice and they have some pretty decent coverage without being as heavy as the other options. They are very strong and certainly can be used as real sliders.
I did have rust form on...
2013 with 52k+ miles. Used a lot in winter on salted iowa roads. Garage kept (which can actually be worse for rust in some cases). Not especially good about washing the underside in winter.. (i should try harder)
You guys make me nervous. I have 52k on my 2013 and have never done anything with the water pump. I did have to top up the coolant once, but it has been fine.
