Making a case for the D5

All those engineering innovations were the result of the then market demands but in a very effective, functional, and tasteful manner, and some more. Whenever you stick those principles, you advance and make progress and thats exactly what happened (which we all witnessed and benefited from)...

    Another Defender hint?

I personally would be ok with the non-round headlights if the overall design brings the Defender into the modern world but with its own image intact, like the way they had done the Disco 2 to LR3 transition, heritage and lineage was kept there. In fact, the LR3/4 became an icon itself, and we...

LR4 Offroad Performance WITHOUT Heavey Duty Package

Didnt know that you could actually shift to the low range while still moving. I thought I had read it in the handbook (either LR3' or 4's) a while back that in order to shift to low you had to come to a complete stop, shift the transmission to Neutral, select low range and then put the...

Making a case for the D5

I very respectfully disagree given the modern context. And here is my reasoning: If we were to be living in an isolated world of the eighties or nineties or earlier, the good old money talks would have mattered a lot more. Back then decision makers were almost like opinion/market...

Making a case for the D5

Is it just me or is it really that LRNA has been advertising the shit out of D5 on TV? I mean. I don't ever remember seeing that many TV ads with that much of frequency for any of their models over the past twelve years that I have been with the brand, holiday season or not. And I am assuming...

Making a case for the D5

And I would have been totally ok, if, in the process, TATA/LR/McGovern were creating better and more functional products. As a chief and "professional" designer as he likes to call himself, his job is not to sell, his job is actually to design better automobiles. He is not a sales man...

    Another Defender hint?

Diggin the clean look of the A pillar and window frame in that spy shot. Lets hope that the rest of it as also as understated and clean design vs an overly-styled nonsense screaming in a shrilly voice: "Hey! Look at me, I am a Range Rover" which is what has been coming out of Mr McGovern' room...

    the LR4 19inch tire dilemma

About 3k on the TerrainContacts here, mostly summer, I am very happy with them so far. But make sure you break them in properly, this tire takes about 700 to 800 miles to reach its sweet spot.

    LR4 Cover

Resurrecting... Being around $260 or more, and not being waterproof, plus not sure if it will work on my '16 due to the sideview mirrors' design change '14 onwards, I am a little reluctant in investing in the OEM one. Any alternatives which are waterproof and perhaps have a softer inside layer...

    Another Defender hint?

Would definitely not want to shave any weight off at all. Its actually that Rolls Royce like weight of LR3/4 that gives us that unflappable Rolls like well-planted, glued to the tarmac (dry or wet), smooth, comfortable ride even at 90 mph even with its largely vertically oriented...

    Another Defender hint?

You guys think that this thing may actually have a stepped roof like our LR3/4s? Looking at the pix, seems like they have a tall covering over the front part of the roof. A stepped roof could be a great design element there. It is one of the clearly distinguishable signature design feature...

    Another Defender hint?

Yeap, thats a nice and shiny looking metal pipe alright. And you could clearly see it running under the diff in the other pictures as well. I hope I am wrong and that this is just a visual illusion. But if I am not, it just amazes me, really, it does, the laziness of these guys these days...

    Another Defender hint?

Muffler/exhaust pipes still running under the control arms? Ridic. C'mon LR, really, whats the deal at your joint? Should have come up with a solve by now as its been well over a decade since this unfinished part of the design was first introduced to us when the chassis had gone independent...

    Showoff Your LR4

Excellent tire on the highway and on dirt. Got pretty hot out. Cabin temp reached above 123 F at some point when left parked in the sun for sometime, with the windscreen cover in place. I think that little gadget could only read ambients up to 123 F so maybe it was even hotter inside the car.

Is the LR4 good for daily highway travel?

I am sure. Full size RR certainly will have quieter, cushier, and more luxurious ride. But due to the lack of IBF, it will also be missing that particular and specific well-secured, insulated feel inside the cabin that only an IBF architecture provides due to its inherent nature of isolating...

Is the LR4 good for daily highway travel?

I get that. But the trouble with LR is that instead of raising the level of quality in their flagship product(s) (and they certainly can) they actually have been cutting corners and have been dumbing down the lower models in their lineup, when compared to the other brands in todays' market. A...
