Serpentine/Accessory belt failure on a very wet, dark MI road in the middle of nowhere...

The new temperature sensor arrived from from FCP Euro; I measured the resistance across the two terminals and get about 2730 ohms. The old sensor was registering as an open circuit so I guess that gives me my answer about what's broken. Interestingly I get these temperatures once the engine...

Serpentine/Accessory belt failure on a very wet, dark MI road in the middle of nowhere...

Too late but I don't think it was feasible anyway... Still, something isn't right as I got these fault codes :-(. The good news is that the engine is running and seems to be OK, although it's still early days. P2185-17 and P065C-00; the first is the sensor, the second perhaps an issue with...

Serpentine/Accessory belt failure on a very wet, dark MI road in the middle of nowhere...

Yep - exactly, I don't see the point in spending lots of $$$ if there's more fundamental issue; the cooling system refresh will all coincide with timing chains as well... I'm ah 102K miles and don't know the history of the parts; chains are slightly noisy!

2015 LR4 Stalling when cold - Low Fuel Pressure Fuel codes etc.

I feel it takes a little time to gain confidence that a fix works... These trucks are not 4Runners but when they run they're friggin amazing! Good luck and welcome.

Serpentine/Accessory belt failure on a very wet, dark MI road in the middle of nowhere...

As mentioned previously; when the belt broke it also damaged the coolant temperature sensor found directly below the thermostat; here are some images; for reference you can see the AC compressor behind the connector: The damage is to both the thermostat which can be found here at FCP Euro...

Serpentine/Accessory belt failure on a very wet, dark MI road in the middle of nowhere...

The new idler pulley (part# LR010725) which is situated behind the viscous fan pulley does indeed measure 70.1mm (which is the same as the original when I measure with my vernier calipers). The width is marginally less. The new pulley is made from Plastic while the old one was steel (the...

    Head Removal

This forum (and all the great folks here :-) ), YouTube, patience, knowing when to walk away and take a break, decent tools that will naturally grow as time goes by, a spare vehicle, a place to work safely and comfortably, a reasonable understanding of how things work and why (YouTube again)...

Accurate Service History of the Car

Translation from Google: "I would like to get a complete service history, including information about what parts were replaced when servicing the car I bought. Is anyone able to help me get such a report? I am importing a car to Europe from the United States, but unfortunately European service...

Part number appears to be LR133579, I plan to add this to the list!

Comments posted above about this, in essence, no, it's all on the immediate to do list (along with timing chains)

Tensioner pulley measures 75.75mm; the idler pulley behind the viscous fan pulley is 70mm. So they're different, I'll measure the new ones when they arrive and report back.

I'm nodding my head, this is good to hear despite my OCD approach/opinions, I can live with this. - Thank you.

Serpentine/Accessory belt failure on a very wet, dark MI road in the middle of nowhere...

Here's the parts list and current pricing info (prices are rounded): The broken idler (the bracket I think is OK) LR035555 ($211 at Lake Bluff), this is the full assembly LR010725 is the pulley ($50) Bolt for the same idler Not seeing this yet, not needed if we buy the bracket! The other...

Yes, it looks identical. The pulley also looks like the idler pulley but as I mentioned above I'll need to measure them to conform the diameter. Thank you for sharing this.

Serpentine/Accessory belt failure on a very wet, dark MI road in the middle of nowhere...

I just put in an order with Lake Bluff; they're based in IL and were helpful when on the phone. I'm not sure about the idler on the tensioner been the same as the idler on the assembly (they're both flat pulleys); the old pulley on the assembly (the broken one) is metal while the replacement...

I'm looking here right now but plan to give them a call: https://parts.landroverlakebluff.com/v-2012-land-rover-lr4--hse--5-0l-v8-gas/cooling-system--belts-and-pulleys I think Palm Beach in Florida may be the other dealer... I'll take a look at the other places! Saving $10 but spending 3...

Serpentine/Accessory belt failure on a very wet, dark MI road in the middle of nowhere...

I'm sure you're right about the stethoscope, I'm not there yet! Absolutely agree on the parts front; given I'm from the UK originally I'm very happy to shop in the UK and ship things over. The key issue is they don't have the V8 unless it's a Jag or a super charged V8; certainly the V8 is a...

Transmission taking too long to shift

Honestly not sure and per my other thread she's off the road at the moment! I can report back once things are fixed again. One thing I notice; when I pull out of my drive and go left I go down a hill, I notice that it will sit at about 1900rpm holding a gear almost as if it's engine braking...

Likewise, I've bartered at the dealer but sometimes they won't budge... I'm in no hurry so I don't mind waiting for parts either! I typically don't have dealers work on my cars. I'll take my time and really clean up when I'm in there; this is not a luxury dealers typically have. I didn't...

Serpentine/Accessory belt failure on a very wet, dark MI road in the middle of nowhere...

Here's the root cause; it explains the bearings! This is the flat faced idler that sits behind the viscous fan pulley: I'm now looking for: - This idler (the bracket I think is OK) - Bolt for the same idler - The other idler (preventative - above the alternator) - The pulley on the belt...

Serpentine/Accessory belt failure on a very wet, dark MI road in the middle of nowhere...

Agreed (esp. the bearings)! The pulley is actually back behind the bracket (who's part number I'm trying to find); I can feel the pulley rattling around when I stick my fingers back there. I believe I have to remove the viscous fan pulley to get access to a hidden bolt which will in turn...

Serpentine/Accessory belt failure on a very wet, dark MI road in the middle of nowhere...

I did a little lunch time exploration, here's the belt (it was wrapped around the crank pulleys): Which appears to have knocked out some temperature sensor just below the thermostat (this has the potential to leak coolant so need to watch this): And the idler pulley that's supposed to be...

    Control Arms

Agreed, pound foolish penny-wise IMHO. The question then becomes, who makes better quality than OE, I guess that depends on every component!

Serpentine/Accessory belt failure on a very wet, dark MI road in the middle of nowhere...

I'll replace parts if I have it open, I know it's a failure point and it's a PIT to get back to the component; otherwise I agree with what you're saying. Bear in mind, I don't know the full history so I would rather be cautious. Timing chains are making slight noise so I know it has to be done...
