Transmission taking too long to shift

I ran a basic test; you can only access S1 and S2 whether you're in regular terrain mode or the snow and gravel mode. That basically confirms that if you want to follow the ZF procedure (50145 EN) then the wheels need to come off the ground for gear selection. Points to itsaguything :cool...

Thanks, I'll test and report back... I never use S; I don't like how it immediately drops gears when I select it! Have to protect the v8!...

Transmission taking too long to shift

In the ZF procedure (50145 EN) here are the key steps with regards gear selection: Selecting R and D is easy (even when the wheels are on the ground)! How does one shift to 4th gear and what is the "Winter program" that allows you to shift manually? It then goes on to state that you hold...

Transmission taking too long to shift

Absolutely agree, it's just fluid for now... (as committed twice previously) The document is exactly the same one that I've been reviewing. When I think I have it down I'll post steps. As always thanks for the help.

Transmission taking too long to shift

Thanks, yep fluid only at the moment, if I have to do it again then so be it, the fluid will only get "cleaner" as a result. I will take the pan off hence the pictures. How much fluid do I need, is it the 7L per British Atlantic, I suspect it is per one of the ZF manuals I found: I'm still...

Transmission taking too long to shift

Folks - Thank you so much for the additional help. I was going to tackle the job this weekend but I think I'm going to punt for a few days. I'm reading mixed advice on here (I say that with gratitude): - stands vs no stands - all gears vs R-N-D-N-R-P - fluid only vs zipkit vs solenoids vs...

Transmission taking too long to shift

Thank you. Think I'm going with the stands but your answer does seem to confirm it runs with a smaller amount of fluid! I may do the initial work in extended mode and then go to stands. Temperature for the fluid is 40C if I recall?

Transmission taking too long to shift

Thanks. Just ordered another set of stands! Not sure I like the idea of the vehicle on 4 stands but I'll keep jack under there as well. This to me implies wheels turning freely while it's on the stands as I move through the gears, thinking perhaps to take the wheels off to lower the inertia...

Transmission taking too long to shift

Folks - Any thoughts, looking to tackle this tomorrow but need to know how to warm up those fluids with the wheels on the ground... Thanks.

Transmission taking too long to shift

So, now a question... Part of the fluid replacement procedure involves warming up the transmission fluid so that the correct amount of fluid can be added while the transmission is hot. The procedure talks about running the transmission in different gears to help heat up the transmission fluid...

OK, so here are the parts I ended buying. LubeLocker ($32.95 - out the door $46.92): https://www.summitracing.com/parts/LUB-LLT-F6R80 Lifeguard Fluid 6 (it was on sale 6 bottles for $86.72 (out the door))...

    2012 LR4 150k Mile Maintenance

The following comes to mind: - Front and rear crossover pipes (if they weren't already done with the coolant system) - Transmission fluid - Timing chains (that's the biggie) I've done most of the fluid changes by crawling underneath, it wasn't too bad. I'd look at the service manual for other...

    Cooling System Replacement - Dealership.

I was looking at the British Atlantic site the other day at the cooling pipe kits; they were circa $700, I'm guessing but probably add another $250 for the front and rear crossovers and you have $950 in parts, $3K in labor, at say $200/hour gives 15hours... I have no idea, just want to hang...

    Best windshield replacement option?

I believe Pilkington is considered a very high quality glass manufacturer so I'd echo the sentiment here.

Transmission taking too long to shift

Folks, Thanks for the advice. For now I'm going to try the filter and oil replacement (using ZF fluid). I'll see how that goes, if it's still not right I'll start looking at the solenoids and zip kit but I tend to agree that with no codes I'd be throwing money at a problem that doesn't exist...

Transmission taking too long to shift

This is one of the things that I came across during initial research; it suggests some issues with the sealing sleeves I believe (and possibly solenoids). I'd only do that particular work if the problem is getting worse or I was in there for another reason. Start here, it mostly BMW but it's...

Transmission taking too long to shift

So I'm still learning... It strikes me there's a bunch of stuff that can be done (parts may be wrong in the links below so don't use these as a basis for ordering): - Fluid and filter change - Solenoid change - Sealing sleeves - Zip kit I'm still trying to figure why folks do the Zip kit; the...

2015 LR4 front end sagging overnight

I had a similar issue with valve blocks and sagging; with new seals I've had no issues (it doesn't sag even when left for weeks). I've read here that not all seal kits are created equal... The ones I purchased and subsequently recommended seem to be working for others as well. Here's the...

Transmission taking too long to shift

That's quite the JLR salvo you have... Will continue to do my research, I realize there's some recent threads on here about doing the transmission pan/fluid so I'll scan through those again (I didn't realize this would be on my agenda so soon but it seems like a smaller project than the timing...
