Rear view or Rearview Mirror Soft Buttons

Skipping the backstory, but finally programming the garage door opener buttons on Red Rover that I picked up about a year ago. Followed the directions, multiple times. Rover responds and everything looks like it should work But Garage door opener does not respond... Garage door opener ok...

Front-end suspension rattle and banging is gone!

Well, if you are up for a long distance drive to get this done. I have had excellent service from the Rover dealership in Rochester NY. It can be hard to get into their schedule, but they are reliable. I am in Houston, don't even slow down here. 4 dealerships, 3 won't answer the phone and I...

Front-end suspension rattle and banging is gone!

Working in a parking lot is never fun - cudo's for making that work! But since when are new tools a deterrent ?? New tools are one of the great joys !!

Front-end suspension rattle and banging is gone!

When I did the crossover pipes, I was amazed at how much grit and dirt accumulated on the engine, even way down "inside" around the oil cooler. Both on the V8 and the V6. It's absolutely amazing. I performed no fewer than 4 separate vacuum cleanups along the way in that project - no way any...

Front-end suspension rattle and banging is gone!

Did you personally do the rear crossover with your own hands? If so then you certainly can do all the other plumbing bits yourself as well. (And you could have done the control arms yourself as well - it's not terribly hard.) I have not done the timing chain, but my sense from this group is...

2013 LR4 with overheated engine...what would you pay

Never chase a vendor - never. If they want the work they will contact you with a legitimate bid. Not that I ever plan to do it myself,,and just asking... But it seems to me that once one could handle the weight and physical reality of hoisting an engine that most of us on this group could...

What jack do you recommend to store in your trunk?

I have the OEM jack of course, but the jack I would actually use is a 2 ton bottle jack. It stores very nicely in it's plastic case in the little side chambers in the way back. Here is a video I put together with some jacking tips and tricks. Hope it's useful.

    Lug Nuts Will Not Budge

But in the end, over tight lug nuts are not the fault of the vehicle, they are the fault of some ***** with an air gun. The days of "professional" mechanics knowing more than ourselves are long over, and it was probably never that way to start with... That's why we here on this group do as much...

    Lug Nuts Will Not Budge

That happened on our 1992 Isuzu Trooper. I could not get them off even with an impact wrench. Dealership claimed that they were overtightened during manufacture - who knows. Ever since then, after any time anyone touches the lugs, I take them all off and properly re-install to the correct...

Current Brake Pad and Rotor Recommendations?

Per above, the backer nut on the sliders is thin, I use a 6" crescent wrench, it j u s t fits. And that 21mm 12 point. I know I drive everyone nuts, but here is the video I put together on this. The information you will find here is typical of any brake job, but I have all the torques, AND a...

Not to discourage, but please see my comments above about EuroAmp.

Current Brake Pad and Rotor Recommendations?

For the fluid flush I used the Rover recommended Castrol as sourced from AB, at that time, AB was by far the least expensive.

Current Brake Pad and Rotor Recommendations?

It's the rear's, almost certainly - well at least as the fronts and rears were installed at about the same time the last time around. I replace the rotors every other time.

    Removing rear seat headrests?

Agreed, they have push in buttons on both posts, quite stiff. You need to push both in at the same time and then lever the headrest upwards, it can be a trick... I have removed my rear seat headrests for better visibility, they are stored in the way back in case I have passengers. I have seen...

    Cosmetic for sun damage?

My regime for the exterior. Painty Bits: Wash it Clay it Touch up paint as required - I'm a hack at this part... Klasse (German made liquid wax) - 3 coats Carnuba Wax (spray on) - 2 coats (takes out any swirls and is crazy shiny) Graphene - 1 coat - 303 Brand Carnuba - another 2 coats Light Up...

Toll-road RDIF sticker on LR4 windshield

We do not have any issues with RFID window tags in NY State or in TX as applied to the standard heated windshield, or with the parking structure hanging tag that hangs on the rear view mirror. Most of the tags tell you exactly where they are to be applied - I would go with the instructions as...

Help! My LR4 Needs a New Engine & I Need Your Input

Boring out the cylinders and increasing displacement is seriously beyond my experience and capabilities, but I can comment on using cheap injectors and coils. I changed all 6 in the Nissan Maxima and went the cheap route. Less than a month later I was back at it again and that time I used all...

Help! My LR4 Needs a New Engine & I Need Your Input

Not to minimize, and not that I ever want to do the work, but for understanding... off the top of my head... a long block would then need, or need to be connected to - alternator, viscous fan, belts, intake and exhaust manifolds, supercharger depending on model year, coolant plumbing...

Help! My LR4 Needs a New Engine & I Need Your Input

Everyone... And if this is a stupid question please let me know. Why not purchase the engine and do the work ourselves?? And in that case what configuration engine would we be getting? Short block? I don't know the term but is there such a thing as a "long" block. And in overview, for...

    LR4 Owner Considering Disco 2

80mph in the LR4 here in Houston means you are still in the driveway - well only exaggerating a little bit, no traffic cops here anymore and while I also baby it, 80mph is an every day occurrence. And for grins you could add a supercharger to that V8... Hey, the heart wants what it wants, if...

Known Auto-Salvage (Junk Yard) Resources for Harvesting Hard to Find Parts

As our LR4's age, and because Rover only provides some parts when we purchase entire assemblies, I note that we are seeing more posts looking for individual hard to find piece parts. Can I suggest that the Admin's start a sticky thread for with a title something like this one, and until that...

The Quest for A Durable Front Crossover Pipe

A couple years ago when I did the 2013 V8 5L I found an on-line vendor with crossover aluminum pipes, and they were physically just across town here in Houston, TX. I drove over with the intent to look at the crossover pipes and to purchase a set. Rather than re-hash those comments (available...

If anyone needs information on dropping your LR4 tank to replace the fuel pump, let me know...

Thanks! I have a phantom fuel leak at fill-up time that we have been working on for a year now. (It's slow because the truck is away at University and I need to depend on remote dealerships). Dealerships are at a loss to explain and I know that my diagnostic skills are far superior - but I...

Any DIY tips out there on replacing a 2016 LR4 SCV6 Thermostat Housing?

Yes, that's it. The part number is also in the video in the beginning in the parts list. If you can actually get that old thermostat/hose bit please let us all know how! I replaced the entire lower hose, no sense spending the money and then not replacing. Note that Rover hoses come with the...

New Recall Alert : Fuel System

The Rover dealership up at University will be doing it, even though these guys are the best Rover dealership I have personally worked with, still can't think too far out of the box. Although they did agree to install just the o-ring rather than the entire vent tube, should that be...
