    Surprising oil usage

I too think there would be evidence like a drip or oil circles the tailgate from oil in the exhaust, but I haven't seen any oil. I've been inspecting the front of the engine with a bright **** amazing flashlight and its all good. No drips on the ground. The vacuum pump is not leaking, valve...

    Surprising oil usage

I searched around the forum and didn't see any threads about oil usage, but did find one for how long to go between oil changes and I'm now sold on 7,500mi. I started overlanding in a new environment and my oil usage went up to 1/2 qt. per 80 miles round trip into town and back plus a few...

Belt began squeaking above 1000rpm...what is this?

Is that belt sagging? Your tensioner is probably broken if the belt isn't tight and that would be the cause of a squeaking belt. I'd get a new Gates brand belt and a Land Rover tensioner.

That bellhousing looks nice. If you will ever need to run a wire through the firewall now would be the time to do it lol.

    Disabling door sensors?

Thank you!! I initially thought about safety where a case could be the door was open and then I back the door into a tree folding it back, but I've never done that before and I don't even reposition with doors open for that very reason. Then this morning I realized the door latches also work in...

    Disabling door sensors?

The reserve capacity on my Land Rover brand (Interstate) starter battery started to dwindle and after opening the doors 3 times after a long drive the starter was noticeably slow. That was even with a battery tender Jr on it. I need to throw that thing away so I don't keep using it lol. The new...

Zip kit and fluid change, now won't go past 5th

Sorry to hear about that issue. I don't have experience with the kit, but would tell the shop to remove it. Then return the kit and tell them its a pos.

My LR4 experiences in terms of mechanical issues that keep piling up

I searched for all the problems before buying my '12 July 2023 and decided if I had every one of them I'd still be fine with it. If you haven't replaced the air compressor that might be next on your list of repairs. Mine was replaced at about your mileage. Around 80k+ mi the timing chain might...

    Persistent P0430 on my 2012 5.0

I had a cat clog up once that was behind a 455CI big block V8 4 barrel. There was a hissing sound from back-pressure in front of the cat.

    Updated sources for skid plating?

You might be surprised at the factory armor (aside from rock sliders). I'm still new to off-roading in the LR4, but have been getting a lot of seat time in the past months. I miss-judged a rock last week thinking I could clear it and holy cow it hit damn hard and lifted the front end at 5-8 MPH...

The ball joint is pre-installed onto the control arm. But yeah, they could have cut it somehow. I do remember inspecting their work and didn't see it. The boot problem was noticed when I was re-doing my brakes later on and doing a tech inspection.

I went to a shop to do my LCA's and after a few months I saw my ball joint boot torn. I brought it back and they replaced it under warranty. I need to check them again, but they are not the OEM brand. They are some other brand (same maker as Land Rover), but cheap asf if you ask me because it...

    Radiator replacement

Belts? Gates is the best. I had a leak in my rad at 97k mi and everyone said to get the Land Rover brand radiator since aftermarket versions are inferior. If you buy Land Rover brand coolant then you can in the future use blue light to look for leaks like a detective searching for blood on...

Could you try moving the sensor on the other side to the problem side and see if you still get the code? On a different topic, I'm curious about your original engine. How did it fail?

    Showoff Your LR4

I took a trip to Southern Utah and climbed from Vegas to 9,800' with a full load of all my gear. I've got a weight set for exercising, 10 gallons of gas, 5 gal diesel, 18 gallons of water and a bunch of other heavy stuff. The LR4 needed 4th gear at 80 MPH to climb a few grades on the highway...

Fixing wind noise from pillar covers?

I'm not sure. All the windows have the Land Rover brand on them except the windshield. It has Pilkington but all the others have Pilkington brand too.

Nice determination. Did you use a hand saw? When I do mine I might rent a sawzall. Nice brake line, it looks sharp. Are those the original air struts?

Fixing wind noise from pillar covers?

On the highway I've always had a wind noise coming from the drivers side windshield pillar when there is a cross-wind and today I thought to investigate since I'm taking the LR4 out of state for the first time to overland in the wild Utah mountains! I found this thread...
