You brought back memories of driving my C5 half way across the country at 90mph in uniform so when the cops stopped me they would let me go(happened once) and calculating that I got 30mpg when I would stop for gas.

I don't disagree with you. And that's not to say there is anything wrong with the 6hp either. Sounds more like the management sw in your bimmer was the issue. What is the matter is the lack of maintenance.
