2013 V8 116k miles.
Last two oil changes P0016 comes in within 0- 300 miles of an oil change, then goes away after a few drive cycles.
Each time I think, well, it's toast, then it goes away.
Chains seem to have very small amount of slack through the oil fill but zero noise or anything, it runs great.
Is this a weird Land Rover electrical thing?

That DTC indicates that the cam timing is off.
I know, which is why I think the engine is toast but then it goes away. Under what conditions would it think timing is off but then come back?

At that mileage I think you might want to consider having the timing chains and tensioner replaced.
That is what I am trying to avoid. All the reading on here says you can wait until they make noise, they don't make any noise whatsoever.
