I have 285/50/r20s on my LR4 and have had them on there for years. I found them to be pretty much the perfect size. Nice and chunky, plenty of road contact, and they've lasted years with 0 issues. The front wheels rub a teeny amount when in a hard turn, but it's never been much of an issue.

That said, it seems like 285/50/20 isn't really popular anymore as I can't find many AT tires that come in that size. Falken, Toyo, even the Grappler G3..no dice. Nitto does have more aggressive tires in that size, but I'm like 2/3 on road 1/3 off.

I settled on the size and tire after reading a bunch of posts here years back, so I'm wondering what to replace them with now. It would be great to keep the size as I really only need to replace my fronts right now. Rears look great.

Thanks!

Nitto (Ridge or Recon) Grapplers? Pirelli Scorpion ATs? There a bunch of choices.
(And I really like my Pirelli Scorpions All Terrain Plus for 3 seasons, Michelin X-Ice snow for the winters here)

Of course, you realize that the specified tire size is 255/50R20, Load index 109.
Some put LT tires on, then wonder why the ride feels so stiff and hard...

Whenever I'm going to a size that is not suggested by the manufacturer, I always refer to this:
That way, I can avoid the "rubbing".

I forgot to add… Many choose the wrong tire and/or the wrong inflation pressure. I also refer to this frequently:

That's an under appreciated point. I moved to 265/65/18 LT tires on heavy 18" steel wheels and... yeah, you really do feel the road imperfections with those. If I had realized I was ongoing going to go off-roading once a year, I probably would have made a different decision.
