if it empties the overflow tank, you have a leak somewhere. as mentioned earlier, it is a dis service if your mechanic does not replace the crossover pipes and rear heat manifold while in there unless they have been replaced very recently already -

those codes are really not connected to coolant leaks and overheating. likely you have cracked or leaking coolant crossover tubes [front] and/or rear heat manifold leaks. both are plastic and if they have not been replaced prior, at 13 yrs old and 70k miles are shot.
