let me know if you get one cut. I wanted to do the same thing. Just a reminder to those that don't know you will not be able to drive with the skelleton key only unlock the vehicle. thus a spare oem key fob will need to be stored in the vehicle.
my wife was 3hrs down state when hers dissapeared. probably my 3yr old kid but who knows. I had to drive down at 10pm to get her the spare key.

I am so glad I searched this site for the answer on EBay Keys. I was getting to purchase an $80 dollar key from ebay, and called the dealer who said they would not work with a non dealer purchased key. I have 1 OEM key know, but I have to have 2 keys because we never know what can happen to the 1 key.

I was about to buy a key off ebay as well and called all my local Landrover dealers and everyone single one of the denied me of cutting and programming the key. The dealers do that that but they charge an hours worth of service. But I was told I had to buy the key from them at $265 and $118 to program the key.

DocHummer, those are the same keys they sell on ebay but the thing is you have to get your local dealership to agree to program the key. My dealerships said no how no way they want you to buy the key from them even if they program the key on site. I found a repair shop in Chantilly VA that quoted me $250 for everything which is a good saving of $100. The place is called http://www.loudounrover.com/cu.php

So, I am in need of a new key as well. :(

I called the dealership - $267 for the remote/key blade and $53 to program - so $320 total.

I am in utah, so I called up BPUtah.com - $135 for the remote without key blade, and he said he could point me to a guy he uses that can program it much cheaper than the dealership. But - how do I get a blade cut? Anyone have any ideas?

Or am I basically stuck with going to the dealership?

I think they're laser cut. They may have to be cut by Visteon who makes the LR3 keys.

So....what are you saying? Are you saying I can contact Visteon somehow?

My question is: Can I get a laser cut key from someone else (other than the dealership) for less money?
