Lower control arms are off and got a vice grip rebuild while I wait for ball joints and bushings. Driver's side boot was torn.

What is this blocked off fitting on the back of the intake manifold? I know this was developed during pretty lean times at JLR, but this makes no sense to me. Looks like a coolant outlet that has been blanked out.

For anyone else that goes down this path, watch out for those fender points. I've bumped my head on them several times and felt like I impaled my shoulder blade on one yesterday.

Some vehicles have a symposer. Which is attached to that fitting. The vehicles that don't have it, the port is capped off.
The symposer creates a V8 like sound on acceleration.

I went to a shop to do my LCA's and after a few months I saw my ball joint boot torn. I brought it back and they replaced it under warranty. I need to check them again, but they are not the OEM brand. They are some other brand (same maker as Land Rover), but cheap asf if you ask me because it was torn just by driving. It had a vertical tear and was quite surprising. What brand are your LCA's with the tear?

IDK. I couldn't discern any markings. It was noticeably stiffer than the passenger side. Lemforder replacements should be here by the end of the week.

“boot torn” was most probably an installation oversight on a new bushing…. Glad it was on warranty for you. Whenever I get any work done at my local JLR shop, it comes with a year’s parts and labour warranty…

The ball joint is pre-installed onto the control arm. But yeah, they could have cut it somehow. I do remember inspecting their work and didn't see it. The boot problem was noticed when I was re-doing my brakes later on and doing a tech inspection.

Quick update.

Lower control arms are rebuilt. Did some rust mitigation on some welds in the engine bay. New motor mounts are in. Transmission is back in after getting seals replaced. Motor will be here at some point next week.

I had some random bracket on the ground and spent a bit looking for an answer before asking here. Turns out a Lithuanian used parts site had the answer.

The obstruction wrench is your friend.
