2016 LR4 Coolant Crossover, Water Pump, Thermostat Replacement

Glad I did not touch that!

A quick look around and overlooking the drain plug again, but there it is...
It's a 3/16 allen wrench.

I am also doing the coupler, so any remaining oil will come out when I take off the snout.

No oil will come out the snout. The only oil in the sc is in that little box under the drain plug. It’s the gearbox - isolated from the rest of the unit. Not much volume, and not much oil. Just a little in the bottom to bath the bottom of the gears.

2016 LR4, 60K miles

I am told that the fill volume for this is 151mL, but I recovered only 84mL.

No evidence of leaks and yes, I am sure I got it all out - syringe and tubing and moving SC to make sure I was getting it from all the corners of the gearbox.

New oil has no appreciable odor, used oil has very unpleasant odor, closest I can come to a description is nasty earwax.

Fill volume should be ?? Opinions....

(Does it actually ever get easy??)



UPDATE I sent SCOL photos of all the stickers and all the casting numbers and they state at 200% certainty (their words)
that the fill volume on this particular gearbox is 90mL. Nergal, the tech guy, spoke to second level support and apparently, once they had all the photos,
they said "OH, it's one of Those...". We agreed that the refill volume should be 85mL.

I think it's another case of "every Rover is unique because they are all put together using whatever is laying around that day."

Put in a bit, swish it around/spin the supercharger by hand if you can, then pull it back out and see if the color is darker. If the color is like new fluid, then you got it all, if it's darker, then some was left behind that you didn't get. Maybe that'll give you a hint as to where to go between 85-150?

2016, 60K miles.
OK, so minor SC coupler spring damage to the main shaft, this is mainly cosmetic, but I can feel a very small bit of wear.
Do you think this will be out of balance enough to require replacing, or just put it back together...
The new coupler does not touch the main shaft.

That’s what mine looked like. I just put it back together. Definitely not worth repairing in my opinion.

Having just done the front and rear crossover pipes, waterpump, thermostat etc, I'd appreciate a view from those who've done this. I completed the task with a vacuum coolant fill (took about 8 litres). Since then I've had to top up maybe a hundred ML on two occasions a week after the project. I'm not sure if this is because there was air trapped in the system (I have rear air, which makes for a more involved system) or - God forbid - I have a leak. I'm checking for leaks on the front of the engine (water pump, and all the hoses that comprise the thermostat run) as well as the more obvious hoses to the intercooler and to the rear of the intercooler - I see nothing.

Dreading that it's a leak, but wanted to see what experiences others might have had. Thanks.
