and suggesting "the 2014 Land Rover Discovery will be offered with the supercharged V6 engine from the F-Type S so it should output 380 HP (279 kW). This will serve as a replacement for the naturally-aspirated V8 5.0-liter engine.".......

The 380 hp motor is the one that should be put in these trucks, but if the '14 RR already has the 340hp motor, do you think the LR4 will get the 380hp? As far as the tuning goes, I'm not aware of any companies in the USA that offers tuning for Land Rovers and the S/C motors have been in these trucks for quite a few years now. If it were a BMW, there would be several companies already working on cracking the code...

Apparently, the 340hp V6 is pretty decent 0-60, but not that great passing out on the highway...

There are a couple companies in the UK and Germany that have chipped SC engines. There might not be enough of a crowd here in the US looking to tune their RR or RRS.
I gotta say I'm totally happy with the 375hp/ 375lbft V8 that is not supercharged in my LR4.

Thanks for the link - very interesting. I am curious to see the headlights revealed and how they look with what looks like a sculptured design. This is my preference, but I not a big fan of the LEDs on the Evoque and new RR - too blingy for me. I almost wish I could shut off the LEDs on my LR4 - hehe! :)

I did not see the rotary gear knob mentioned - I wonder if that will be part of the 2014 as well. I am sure if they do go with the 380 SC V6, 8 speed, it'll be a nice ride. With that said, I'm 100% happy I pulled the trigger on a 2013 - I still want the V8 and definitely did not want the gear shift knob (if that is even on the 2014).

I agree with Count, I wish Land Rover would just reveal the damn 2014 LR4 and be done with it.

I agree. But then again, LR should just leave the drive train alone until the next gen, IMO. Maybe they are offering it becasue:

a) The LR4 didn't get a chance to drop 800lbs like the RR, and they felt it was a noticeable enough downgrade that, considering they don't want to drop the price and it would merely (hopefully) keep performance the same, they decided to offer the bigger engine.

b) The F-Type engine wasn't officially released when the RR was released and they wanted the F-Type to get the glory. Maybe the RR will also get t next year?

c) As long as when driven back to back, the LR4 doesn't feel significantly (or at all) better than an RR (which it won't), will customers care that they RR is a different tune of the same engine? i.e. I much rather have a Boxster S with a Flat 6 than a Cayenne V8.

David,

I did a quick search on this as I was pretty sure that when LR mated the TDV6 to the 8 speed they introduced the rotary shifter and here are a couple links showing the LR4/ Disco4 with the rotary shift knob and paddle shifters:

To be honest with you, all of the European vehicles imported to the US are always one or two years (sometimes more) behind the European version (LR, BMW, VW...)

I do not mind the rotary shifter as you get to shift the gears with the paddles if need be and in some extreme situations it might be better to have both hands on the steering wheel.

I believe the article points out that the reveal will take place in September so only a couple more months to wait... who knows maybe the body design will actually be slightly different...

Axel

So i was driving my wife's Evoque (rotary shifter and buttons for traction control) and after I was done playing in the mud, instinctively i reached for the rotor and spun it to what I thought was normal driving terrain. Imagine my shock when i put the car into park at 40mph.....

Cudo's to the car for not seizing the tranny and just yelling at me while in neutral.

It definitely will take some getting used to in dealing with the rotary shifter.
