starter replacement

97 Disc se7 where is the starter? I looked in the occasional spot driver side left under engine. I also read a prev post Where joey said it was on the right hand side under the exhaust manifold with a heat sheild protecting it. I found it with no heat sheild. Could that be why it went out. And where would I find a replacement sheild?

If you do not have a heat sheild on the starter, yes this will **** the starter fairly fast... the manifold will create way too much heat for the starter to handle.

Starters do not like heat.

My suggestion would be pick up a used heat shield. Give "Will Tillery" a call at www.roverguy.com

thanks for the info..The heat sheild was off. It was rivveted on instead of bolted on found only parts to it. So at one time it was on. Thanks I will give Will a call Before i use it again.
