The first obvious question is:

Is this engine strong enough stock to handle .5 bar? 97 disco 1, 4.0 Thinking about snagging the charger off a Ford v6 and going from there.

There was a supercharger for the Rover 4.0/4.6 engine a while back, but it tended to cause the rear cylinders to run lean which would **** the engine.

Was this due to a design flaw in the kit, or the lower part of the factory manifold? I've heard of that kit and that problem but nobody seems to know exactly where the problem lies.

I know on my 97 disco I thought about anything to add more power after putting larger wheels... cheapest option I found was to change gearing in the diffs... but sadly my engine changed my plans... well between burning 3 quarts of oil on a 1.5 hour drive and the frame rotting out...

Damn, I just typed a huge reply that vanished into the ether...

Long story short: if you were an ASE certified electrical specialist who could do all the work and 80% of the fabrication work yourself, what's cheaper and requires the least down time while giving at least 20hp and 30 ft/lbs- a 4.6 block, big cam, or 8psi? I already have a megasquirt setup ready and all the tools I'd need to do any of the above. My disco has already had a head job if not new heads, it runs smoothly and quietly, but my commute involves ~10 miles of brutal off road each way, monster hills, etc. I need power, I don't need ground clearance or any of the usual mods. I need to make this already capable platform into a true beast.

Wish I could say that "my commute involves 10 miles of brutal off road each way" :)

One would think so, but it's not the fun kind- just a lot of rock encrusted, *** holed, wash boarded, jacked up road. And it makes the morning coffee and evening beer hard to drink. :p

There's a couple short cuts that are doable and amusing depending on the season, so there's occasional excuses to throw it into diff lock and put a smile on your face.
