Does anyone use an engine block heater? Is there one available for a 96 Disco I? I don't live in the arctic, but last winter saw consitant temps below 0 F and we just had similar temps last night - sure would be nice to keep the engine a little warm.

engine block heater

installid one a few years ago in a Range Rover. It was a freeze plug replacement and was quite easy to install. Just pounded a screwdriver in the freeze plug and wiggled the freeze plug out of the hole and replaced it with the unit. Shouldnt cost much more than fifteen dollars or so. Hardest part was draining the anti-freeze. Oily, slimy, and highly toxic especially if swallowed. Keep cats and dogs away from any spills as it tastes sweet and they like to lick it up but there is no reversal of the killing effects. Check at a NAPA or similar store. There are also other types that intall in the heater hoses and circulate the coolant and are a littele more expensive.
