Hi Everyone,

I'm looking to get a LR4. I have a few options and each require about an extra $10,000. I would like to get your feedback. I'm in Ontario so the prices and km's are Canadian.

Option 1
---------------
2010 LR4 90,000KM (56,000 miles)
$38,900
No Warranty Left
Not from a LR Dealership

Option 2
---------------
2010 LR4 48,000KM (30,000 miles)
$49,000
From LR Dealership

Option 3
---------------
2011 LR4 22,000LM (13,500 miles)
$55,900
From LR Dealership

Option 4
---------------
New - 2012 LR4 100KM (60 miles)
$68,500

There is tax on top of the these and with the new one with taxes and fees ends up around $81,000. So with just the base price we have about a $30,000 difference from bottom to top.

Any suggestions from current owners would be really appreciated.

Thanks!
Matt

P.S. This is my first post, but have done lot's of reading on this site!

$81,000 for an LR4 - WOW! That's practically Range Rover prices. Personally, that's way too much to pay for an LR4. I am not sure about prices up in Canada, but $68,500 is quite expensive - that's basically a top of the line (and beyond) LR4 here in the states. What package is the LR4? I sure hope that's Lux loaded to the tilt.

Personally, I would probably go with Option 3, especially since it's from a Land Rover dealer and still seems to have a nice chunk of factory residual warranty. I am not sure how extended warranties work in Canada, but if that's an option, I would definitely look into it if you go used. It's a must here in the states.

I have a 2011 LR4 and it's been rock solid for me, really a reliable vehicle and I am at 18,000 miles. The price difference between Option 3 and 4 is substantial enough for me that I would go used - but not too used.

I would not go with Options 1 or 2, to me, the price is not too far off from Option 3 and they have a LOT more miles and an older vehicle. I wouldn't touch Option 1 with a 10 foot pole - no way!!!

So, I'd go with Option 3, unless you have the money and really want new.

Keep us posted! :)

Regards, David

In Ontario you may want the Climate Control option: heated seats front/middle, heated steering wheel, front window heater strips, may even have engine block heater. I have the HSE with this option. Haven't looked yet for the engine block heater on mine. Not that cold in Texas:)

Jesus. That's crazy considering the loon is .99 to a dollar. Go across the border and buy one in the US. An HSE with cold climate package (no block heater) can be found for around $52K-$55K NEW. You could buy a lot of those options for mid-$30Ks here.

$12,500 in taxes! Holy-Obama!
Just get a '75 Gremlin with a good set of tire chains and avoid the tax-man.

That is a huge price difference between all options. I'd go with option 3 and see if the dealer could come down in price. Taxes are what they are. We all pay for them. No big deal.

2010 LR4 90,000KM (56,000 miles)
$38,900
No Warranty Left
Not from a LR Dealership

Option 1 is pretty risky option. Would you buy a 2010 Audi, BMW or Mercedes under these same conditions? Probably not.

Buying a certified used car puts the liability on the qualified dealership... buying outside of this network is so damn risky and I read about people who buy used cars, especially premium, complex vehicles, and regret it big time when stuff starts to go wrong.

Aftermarket warranties are okay for basic cars, but a headache to work with in general, and their repair parameters are truly frustrating - read the fine print! Stay away from them.
