I am glad to see that 99% of people on facebook hate it. I dont think its a bad looking vehicle, but its not a Land Rover looking vehicle.
My 2013 LR4 might truly be one of the last great Land Rovers in my opinion. Square, functional, V8. Its already got more gadgets than I really want on it... ****.
Could not agree more. LR has lost it and given in to the design schemes that date pretty quickly, so basically they are moving to becoming just like any other brand.
This new concept design (not the technology) looks nothing but conventional, a cross between an Acura MDX, Mercedes, Audi, Ford Explorer, and maybe a little BMW. Its doesn't say anything LR. The current LR4 base design is a decade old design but when I take mine out on the road it still looks damn current, like a 2014 design, and thats called timelessness.
If it is really a re-design concept of the full size Discovery/LR4 then yes indeed, Land Rover, its been a pleasure and fun. I mean whats the madness with this crushed rear roof line on every model of theirs? I could understand the implementation on Evoque or RRS, but LR4/Discovery? No more distinct, very LR4 characteristic, and defining rear glass design? It looks an Explorer now.
Last week on my way back from vegas, I decided to venture off the freeway a little bit and into a road that runs into Mojave. Off this road there were some dirt roads going deep into the desert. I really wanted to take those dirt roads but was fearful of the fact that with the factory 19 inchers I had very little side walls to even think about air down and that I might cut one and will have to wait out there for help and it was getting dark. At that time I hoped that I had the option of choosing 18 inch wheels (from the factory as I don't like the design of comp wheels) and some decent rubber, just like the Jeep offers (with their trail-rated versions, etc, I think). But without the proper shoes, its just a soccer mom vehicle. So much so for wanting to venture out. And now this concept design.
Time to look into extended warranty for my 2013 LR4 and possible other alternatives. There is nothing like the current LR4 on the market, best of both truck' ladder frame and car like monocoque, a solid feel both on and off road (felt it during this trip on the freeway at 80 to 90mph). But now that LR is going in a more mainstream direction, our choice range will expand to include other brands because design wise there won't be any distinction left.
