Hi all,

:hello: Rikki from Nairobi, Kenya! Driving a '94 200TDi Defender 110. It's been a long trip getting to own the best 4x4 on the planet and the journey's just started. I'm battling a baffling steering problem at the moment  but testify that when this car gets running all the problems blow away with the wind! Looking forward to some good exchange of info from all you on the site.

Cheers

Thanks Joey. Two things are wrong with the steering. First the steering wheel has quite a bit of play (5-10 degrees on either side) while driving in a straight line and secondly at some point while driving the car steers to one side 'on it's own' (can be to the left or the right) so i have to correct/straighten it. Wheels balanced and alignment done recently. My service man has made several adjustments at the top of the steering box but to no avail. I've replaced bushes on the pan hard rod, drop arm/tie rod ends are new. Someone mentioned it may warrant a new steering box but i hope not!

Sounds like you need a new steering box... sorry to say. Being where you are located, I would try to find a good reliable Junk Yard (breakers yard) and source a used one.
