I hear you about the engine troubles some have experienced…. preventative maintenance is everything.
(knocking on head again, this week)

Mine runs noisy, but perfectly. I do have the oil and filter changed every 5000 km. That should keep the premature wear at bay.

A close friend with “nearly” the same engine in his F150 currently has 325,000 kms on that work truck. Without the chains rebuild, or any rebuild for that matter. And his (roofing) boys drive it hard. Maintenance.

Investment. lol Now that was funny, but I got your drift. A Land Rover in many ways is like owning a boat...ahh, never mind, you're in the desert.

Well, first and foremost, wheels and tires are the singular most important upgrade you can do for your LR4 (or any 4x4, for that matter). 20" wheels are for mall crawlers. I opted for NOT using wheel spacers, though some people do. I am just not a fan of them. I selected Compomotive 18" wheels for my rig. Lucky8 Off-Road has a few brands to choose from including Lucky8, TerraFirma, Compomotive and TuffAnt. You just need to decide on steel wheels or aluminum alloy wheels - there is no wrong answer. 265/65R18 should fit without any modifications. I have (Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T) 275/65R18 tires on my LR4, though I did have to trim the frame horns, but it was not a big deal to get it done.

I would also recommend installing Johnson Rods. I went with the 2.5" lift. Lucky8 can be a good source to buy "lift rods". I got mine directly from Johnson Rods and they have a very informative website that also includes a tire selection guide based on what size lift rod you select. After getting all that squared away, I would think ******* getting a 10,000 or 12,000-pound winch and associated recovery gear.

My last piece of advice is to change your oil every 5,000 miles based on your assumed location. And your air filter every other oil change.

Hope this helps,

Dean

I thought downsizing to v8 lr3 brakes was needed to get 18s to fit.
