That’s a bummer. And it’s blued as well. I hope you can machine it, not sure how readily available spare cranks are for these engines.
I’ve had a look and I can’t seem to find the torque values for the main bearings either.
My Conti's last about 100 miles off-road and 15K onroad and there were chunks missing from the treads. Of course my wheel height was all over the place by well 1-3" after I measured everything in tight tolerance, and yes this was a vehicle that was alway taken to Land Rover, Beverly Hills in...
More or less the same, the Contis didn't last particularly long, changed over to the Toyo ATIII with a 60 profile and very happy camper since. The noise is barely louder than the Contis as well.
Pretty much agree with you there Doc.
The engine choice is a tricky beast. They have to balance future legislation against cost efficient installation and fuel consumption. If you get away from North America and the Gulf states then people simply won’t put up with the terrible fuel consumption...
Hambach is in France, not Germany.

We’re I to start building vehicles. I’d try and get a factory that was already outfitted for that purpose with a workforce that...
Glad everything worked out in the end for you Allegro.
For future reference I've just posted a video on how to remove the fan shroud and the fluid coupling/cooling fan unit or motor as Land Rover call them. Just be careful on YouTube, there's a lot of butchery out there.
My favorite part.
“Currently no parts are available to repair these vehicles. A Technical Bulletin will be published once repair instructions are finalized and any required parts have been procured.”
This screams redesign to me. But I’ll wait with bated breath.
Reminds me of driving British cars with Lucas electronics.
Sounds like a result on the recall for you. I’ll wait with bated breath to see if my letter comes through the mail.
A word for anyone using riv-nuts. If you can use penny washers on either side of the riv-nut it really helps to get a stronger bite. It gives it extra material to grip onto. As the amount of grip you get is from the knurled (scored) portion and where it circumferentially meets the metalwork of...
The cowl shouldn’t really be an issue. Even if it’s all cracked or just a plain terrible fit after a new wind shield. The intake is raised from the surrounding metal by about 2 inches and there’s a partial cover on the upper half to deflect anything downwards so water doesn’t get in.
Never say...
Double check the radiator positioning first. It’s easier to eyeball.
And triple check you’ve installed the shroud correctly. I’m sure on mine the clearance between the fan blades and the brush part is less than 1/2”
Basically with the front bushes you’ll get clunking when going over dips ie. drains in the road or potholes etc. the steering and stability at speed are also affected. Tire wear will be uneven as you can’t get the geometry correct.
it’s an easy job if you’re a basic home mechanic. As you’ll not...
